The bolt should be tightened to a hundred lbs. make sure the center pulley is free to move up and down, and you ahve the right belts. Avoud belts from Lowes or Home Depot od Wally world, They NEVER fit right

I replaced the idler pulley in my car,The bolt that secures the pulley to the tenioner won't lock but tightens.I can get no leverage to get belt on? Any suggestions with out replacing tensioner arm

you don't lever belts at all as it breaks the bindings in the belt
the nut on the shaft that holds the pulley on has to be loosened and then the small bolt at the back of the tensioner mount will move the pulley shaft up or down to adjust the belt tension
so move the pulley shaft to the point where the belt just slips into the pulley groove and then tighten the bolt up until tension is on the belt
tighten up the nut holding the pulley on
If you have the spacer s in the right position then that nut will tighten up securely and retain the tension on the belt

My MTD will not move when I put it in forward or reverse

MTD utilizes a 2 belt variable pulley system. The first step if you lose drive is to attempt to reset the system. Place in neutral and let clutch out with speed selector in highest position or press the motion pedal all the way down. Then attempt to drive at a moderate speed. If still no motion then check both belts. Be sure they are on all the pulleys. The rear/upper belt should have tension on it all the time. The front/ lower belt will be loose when the clutch is depressed and will tighten when released or the motion pedal is depressed.

Yardman riding mower won't pull

Hi, there is an idler pulley that runs on the rear belt that you replaced, make sure the idler arm rotates freely on its pivot bolt and make sure the spring that holds the idler against the belt is not weak. Regards Phil.

Keep chewing lower drive belt and transmission belt on yardman model 13AX604g671. ser.no.1k0251110455

Hello,
My name is Dane and I am going to try to help you solve your problem.
There is one pulley under the eat that you should look at. You will have to remove the battery and lift out the battery tray under it. The pulley is the one to the left that has the 2 belts connected to it. There's a single long bolt and nut, centered on the pulley, that holds it tight and in position. If it's loose, you'll eat up belts. That's the only thing I can think of that would make you chew up those 2 belts.
I hope I've helped! Thank you! Dane

How can I replace the serpentine belt on my Toyota Corolla 2006??

You will need a 19 mm wrench to fit the nut on the bracket that the idler (tensioner) pulley is attached to. Pull the wrench clockwise to release tension just enough to change the belt then slowly let tension on the belt. The 19 mm nut is just above the bolt that holds the idler pulley bracket on to the motor .

Belts slipping and breaking

If you are putting on the mtd belts and installing them right then you need to check bearings in variable speed pulley Also check idler and that no other pulley has been bent from installation.

Replacing fan belt

1.Most modern cars have an IDLER pulley in the fan belt train of pulleys with a heavy spring on it that keeps tension on the timing belt.

2. Get a spanner/socket and put it on the nut in the middle of the idler pulley.

3.heave on the spannner and the pulley will swing up/down out of the way realeasing tension on the belt. (depending on the tensioner setup)

4. Simply remove old belt and thread new belt on. Simple.
