I think that your washing machines motor is shot. probably has an ozone smell to it. you can keep using it with smaller loads.

Burning smell

There's a number of reasons to smell burning after a washing machine cycle. It's a 220V appliance, so if it short's out it will cause problems. It's more likely the motor being overloaded making it hot and causing the electrical burning smell, or a short that's overheating something electrical. Check to see if the belt that spins the whole barrel is melted or worn anywhere. Inspect the wiring that's attached to the system that engages spin, which is different from agitation by the big tower.
If these both check out, an trip to the Maytag Man might have to fix overloading motors or relays, or switches, if anything turns up in your search for the source of the electrical smoke. Ozone is what you are smelling, FYI.

My washing machine will not drain,

2or 3 possibilitiies .faulty lid switch...if machine spins, lid switch is ok.something caught in water pump (very common),or a bad motor,(no spin or agitation),accompanied by burning smell usually..pls note:if something in pump, this can also prevent motor movement and cause overheating too

Washed something too heavy, now washer does not spin or agitate, has burning smell

Burning smell is the precursor of fire. If you do not understand what that means.....Get a Techo out immediately and NEVER use the machine again until it is repaired properly. !

My Kenmore washing machine had a faint burning smell.

i would let it sit for an hour. more than likley what happened was the motor overheated a little because it was trying to spin in an off balance situation. give it a break for a while the next load that you do keep an eye on it and see if you smell anything if you do then you have a problem. But 99% it is ok.

Won't spin on spin cycle, smells of something burning.

sounds like the belt or the tub bearings are shot. It is likely that the motor is spinning and the tub is not, causing the belt to burn.

Whirlpool top loader won't spin

If you are lucky you need a set of clutches about $45. If you are unlucky you would need a transmission.

Since it spins after you help it, I am guessing clutches.
