Have had a few issues with cds not reading very well, on intial spinup and random looping and skipping during playback. The CDX's weak link is the cheap CD drive used, and I found replacing the laser solved it for me.
The laser itself is a Sony unit, KSS-213C. I found one on Ebay for around £10 all inc, from a company called LittleDiode (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/LittleDiode). If you're handy with a screwdriver and a soldering iron, it's not too difficult to replace. During fitting, don't forget to desolder the link on the edge of the board that protects the unit during transit, or it won't work when you power up!
At £10, it's a lot cheaper than having Numark sell you a whole new CD drive for £100+!

Have you tried downloading the most recent rom update for the CDN-90? All you need to do is download it from here http://www.numark.com/contentmgr/showdetails.php/id/1493/tt/5 , then burn the download to disc. Once that's done, put the disc into the player, switch the player off and wait 10 seconds, then switch it back on again. the player will read the disc and flash the ROM. this should reset the player for you. Before you ask, you can out the disc into either side of the player. Full instructions are given with the download.

Ok i have been having this problem for almost a year now. why am i still using axis9??? i dont know. I have been through 4 new different pairs of axis 9s. I keep sending them back, and they will reimburse me the money. ( not the full amount) I will then go back to guitar center and purchase a new pair only to have the same problem. iv tried everything from changing my cd burner, CDRs, burning speed, different computer, but still same problem. for a while i taught the CDR companies down graded the quality of there cds, but i was wrong. Its all NUMARK to blame. The other day i finally got scratch serato thinking my skipping problem would be over. to my surprise 45 min into my set skipping started. Next few songs my left deck would not even read the serato disc. It was embarrassing as people watched my ******** trying to figure out what the hell was going on. I had to cut my set short, and i blame NUMARK fully. Why is my portable cd player from the year 1998 plays better than there $300 piece of **** equipment. I now have 4 axis 9 that i am going to send back to Numark so i can get my money back, and use the cash to get some pioneers. I WILL NEVER USE NUMARK AGAIN. AND I WILL TELL AS MUCH PEOPLE AS I CAN TO NOT PURCHASE THERE PIECE OF **** PRODUCTS. THE BEST THING TO COME OUT OF NUMARK IS THE CUEING ON THE AXIS CD PLAYERS.

Tips for a great answer:
Jan 12, 2014 | Numark CDX Turntable
If you are troubleshooting a system or OS problem, you should not consider firmware updates until after exploring more typical troubleshooting steps like file system error checking and anti-virus scanning.
try uninstalling a few unnecessary programs then click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which will scan for and attempt to fix any bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive this should schedule the task on restart then defragment your hard drive
hope this helps
