Question about Vacuums

Open Question

While putting on a new belt for my Turbo 4000 Hoover upright vacum cleaner, the parts for the height adjustment (slide bar)fell apart. I'm hoping that you might have a diagram or detail instructions on how to put together again. Thank you

SOURCE: user manual required

if you are in the US you need to call 800-437-7170 to get a manual - i'm not sure it will help in enough internal detail to help you get things back together, but the same number is for Kirby technical support and they may talk you through it. If you want to try online then; http://www.kirby.com/CustomerService/ContactUs/tabid/73/Default.aspx if they don't, then please take a good selection of photos of what you have, and post them back here or try and call on a live chat and we can see what we can do to help. Hope this helps you out :)

SOURCE: Hoover Upright SteamVac Deluxe with stair and upholstery cleaner

The original problem was, How do I attach the upholstery attachment to the cleaner. I see where the water connection is, but not where to attach the hose part.,

The solution to attaching the upholstery attachment to the Hoover Steam Vac cleaner was excellent for steps 1 and 2. However, in step 3, I can not simply slide the upholstery attachment straight down. It gets stuck and does not connect to the bottom connector and is stuck in midair. It seems like I am doing something wrong. My Hoover model steam vac model number is F5900-900.

The solution given in steps 1,2, and 3 where I have a problem with step 3 is as follows;

What is NOT easily visible is the connection for the vacuum hose. That's because the machine needs to be "reconfigured" before the hose can be attached. To "reconfigure" the machine:
1) Remove the cover off the waste water tank and notice how things appear--it will soon be important.
2) Find and remove the "panel" on the front of the waste water tank by sliding it straight up and out.
3) Replace the panel with the connector by sliding it straight down. When finished the top should look something like it did in step 1). This assures that the dirty water will be vacuumed into the waste water tank.
Done!

WHERE CAN I FIND A VEW BRUSH FOR MY HOOVER UPRIGHT SELF PROPELLED CLEANER PART NUMBER #48414004
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Well, you can buy the brushroll in 2 different places, your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or you can call the Hoover factory cust serv and ask for the parts dept and they can ship you one. Or, you may have a metal brushroll with replaceable brush strips and they also can rebuild the bearings on either end, it might be cheaper but you need to weigh the cost between the rebuild and the new one. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

How to repair windtunnel hoover agitator that will not turn

Likely a broken belt. Also check the agitator brush roll bearings (in either end under the end caps) for hair, strong, thread, etc. as this will make the brush roll harder to turn and wear/break belts prematurely. If all these check okay, then observe the tensioning roller that causes the V belt (runs from the idler pulley to the brush roller) to be sure it is swinging down when the handle is released to hold tension on the belt, causing it to rotate. These tensioning rollers can break, but often are locked into the "Bare Floor" setting without the user noticing. Slide the carpet brush roll selector (located on top, next to the floor height slide adjustment) back and forth and make certain it is all the way into the "Carpet" setting to allow the tensioning roller to engage. [Note: The tensioning roller is always retracted (in the neutral or off position) when the handle is in the upright position. You must release the handle to allow this tensioing assembly to engage.]

check to make sure that the brush wheel turns freely ( without belt on ) -- if it does not turn freely then there could be hair or carpet strands twisted up on the ends of the wheel,, inspect and clean. also make sure that the wheel cartridge is sitting nicely in its mounting area,, ( again - make sure the wheel turns freely ). now if it is moving freely - then make sure the height adjustment on the vacume is set to the proper height for your carpet thickness,, it kinda sounds like the brush wheel is not turning because it has to much pressure on the floor.
so -- make sure wheel spins freely, replace the belt and adjust the height and then check the unit for proper operation.

The beater belt is broken. There are 4 phillips head screws on the outside (2 on top of the base on either side of the upright, and 2 on the front edge on the underside of the base near front edge). and 4 phillips head screws on the inside (holding the guard cover over the beater bar). The belt is about $3 (part number 38528040). Take out the beater bar and put the new belt around it. Then put the other end around the metal bar and stretch the belt taut as you position the beater bar back into its channel slots. Replace the guard and top cover and you should be good to go...

This is no problem! You will need a flat blade screwdriver and about 10 minutes!

*Always use genuine hoover parts for repairs, discount store belts can be as much as
1" longer than OEM parts, leaving you with a slipping, less than desirable effect.

To replace this belt:
  1. Remove the bottom plate by inserting the screwdriver into the slots on either side and then gently pulling up on the plate. It will pivot from the front so lift from the back.
  2. Pull out the brushroller and old belt.
  3. Remove the height adjustment knob on the top of the hood by lifting it up or prying on it.
  4. Loosen the hood by sliding the screwdriver inbetween the base and the hood and prying outward.(from the bottom) There should be arrows moulded into the base pointing to the positions where the tabs are. (4 tabs)
  5. Lift the hood off of the machine
  6. Put the new belt around the brushroller and place the brushroller in place.
  7. Pull the belt through the hole and put it over the motor spindle. Careful to make sure there is no twist in the belt. This can be difficult as there is plenty of tension on belt.
  8. Replace the hood. It should snap into place.
  9. Replace the height adjustment knob
  10. Replace the bottom plate.
Best of Luck!

How do I put a new belt on Hoover Concept One vaccume cleaner?

you most likely have to remove the cover over the roller, which has screws usually. then you will see the belt. the roller slips out replace the belt by putting it over the roller and a metal rod that is up under the cover you removed. this will be a hard job putting the roller bar back in the vacuum because the belt is so tight.

Installing belt

here are the step by step instructions from the owners manual for your machine.
Disconnect cleaner from electrical outlet. WARNING: Agitator brush roll can start suddenly. Unplug cleaner before turning it over. Replacing Flat Belt Place handle in low position and turn cleaner over so bottom side is facing up. Remove the 6 screws as shown with a Phillips screwdriver. Lift off bottom plate. Replace belt if it is stretched, cut or broken. To check the flat belt. Removing Bottom Plate Removing Belt Positioning Belt Remove used belt from large pulley and discard. Reposition bottom plate and 6 Phillips head screws. Tighten screws securely. Insert agitator brush roll through belt and position belt in groove (A) on agitator brush roll. Inspecting V-Belt The V-belt is designed to last for a long time and is not normally replaced. However, if the V-belt is cracked, gouged or broken, it should be replaced. Slide flat belt off large pulley. To remove V-belt, slide back of belt over pulley (A). Then firmly pull on belt and “snap” it out. Discard used belt. To install new belt (with lettering on outside of belt), slide back of belt over pulley and pull front of belt toward groove next to pulley. Belt will “pop” into place. Flat Belt: What to Buy Use only genuine HOOVER belts with your cleaner. When purchasing a new belt, ask for Flat belt - HOOVER part No. 40201-271. V-Belt: What to Buy Use only genuine HOOVER belts with your cleaner. When purchasing a new belt, ask for V belt - HOOVER part No. 40201-200.
If you can't get the answer from this post, send me a message and I will try to walk you through this. I hope it helps.
