Question about Hard Drives

1 Answer

Installation I purchased the OneTouch4 to back up the files on our old cpu. Installation went OK. When I tried ti install on the new cpu, an error message popped up, hardware installation failed. When I plug in the usb cable, the only thing I get is an autoplay window showing picture options, general options, and setting autoplay options in control panel. There is no program installed and no desktop shortcut. How can I install this; there is no software included in the package and I can't get it to load from the OneTouch. I have considered hooking up the ld cpu and copying the files from it. Do you have any suggestions?

Re: Installation

Hi, i guess you mean you are trying to copy your old information from your old PC to your new one, you can only transfer information like my documents, pictures, music etc from your old pc, It wont work for Programs. If you try copying the folders for old programs and using them it wont work,
Only thing you can do is backup word documents, letters, pictures and copy them to the new pc. by going into view my files on the autoplay option.

Have a nice christmas

Samsung M3 Portable Drive Diagnostic Fail Message

I would try creating a new folder (maybe TEST) on your portable drive, and saving 3-4 files (as copies) from your hard drive, say, a MS Word file, an Excel file and a .jpg picture. Close down your computer, remove the portable drive. Then start up computer again, when ready insert portable drive.
See if your computer recognises it, and then try to open the files you saved onto it. If that is OK it sounds like you do not have a problem. But treat it with caution for a week or two.

I purchased a new computer. I had migrated all programs and documents to it from my old computer. I infact, I imported some files from my digital album to my new computer. Now I have had some problems...

Hi Greg,

If you were using the windows migration tool or Easy transfer utility to move everything off the old computer you will need to use the same program in Start, All Programs, Accessories, System tools to access the large single file that all your old information is stored in.

If you were using a different method reply back with a little more info on the method you were using and I can offer more suggestions.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Lacie drive makes popping noise, goes offline, corrupts files

I'm afraid your hard drive is cactus. The popping noise is most likely the read head hitting the cylinder. This is causing more and more physical damage to the PC as it attempts to read the files. You will most likely need to consult the supplier of the equipment for a warranty replacement, or go through the vendor. If the drive is out of warranty I suggest buying a new one and throwing the old away.

There is no way to recover a drive that is physically colliding the head with one of the drive plattes.

Verbatim 120GB external hard drive

goto Control Panel, administrative tools, Computer Management, Disk Management, If it pops up a new disk install wizard follow the directions in it. If not then find the new disk that has no partition on it, right click on that drive to create a partition, then right click on the drive to format it, if it hasent done so already.

Troubleshooting hard drive installation using Windos XP Pro SP2

Have you added any new hardware? This is typically caused by a faulty RAM module. But could also be any other new hardware you might have added. If you haven't added any new hardware, try removing one RAM module at a time and performing the installation (assuming you have 2 installed), and try again. Or, you might need to purchase a new one, or borrow from another PC to try temporarily.
