Check that the needle is in the right way round i.e. with cut out on the needle facing into the machine. if this is fine then check that as the needle comes back up from the lowest point that it goes to, that the point on the bobbin case passes just above the hole in the needle, i.e. in the middle of the cut out.(if not it needs re timing) if threaded a small loop should appear at this point for the bottom bobbin to catch if not slacken the top thread and try again.

The top thread is not taking up the bobbin thread Why?

This may be due to incorrect threading of the top thread or incorrect winding of the bobbin thread, or the bobbin may be inserted backward. It can also be due to a damaged needle.

Try a new needle first. A brand new one if at all possible.

If a new needle won't help, remove all thread, remove the bobbin, and clean all lint and dust out from around the bobbin. Rethread carefully, making sure all thread guides are used.

Maybe also try using a new bobbin of thread. Ensure it's facing the right way when you put into the bobbin case and that you have pulled several inches of thread from the bobbin case.

Upper thread is not catching bobbin thread

Carmen, seem that you have carried out the necessary rectification, but could it be your rotary hook tip blunt/broken, if not most probably it needs needle/hook timing adjustment. And this will require your sewing machine technician to do it.

Cant get bobbin to catch

here are my suggestions, if none of them help then the machine
needs to be checked for a timing problem

try changing the needle ---make sure it's the right needle for the fabric
being sewed.--make sure the needle is inserted all the way into the
needle holder--and also make sure the needle is turned the right
way.

rethread the machine --top and bobbin

make sure to use every thread guide

make sure the bobbin is turned the right way in the bobbin case

if the machine is a front or side loading bobbin make sure the bobbin
case is inserted correctly

Needle not catching bobbin thread at all

Did you change the needle? If that doesn't solve the problem then it's probably out of time. Take it in for repair.

try changing the needle
rethread the machine top & bobbin
make sure to use every thread guide
make sure the bobbin is not over wound
make sure the bobbin is turned the right way in the bobbin case
make sure the bobbin is not warped or damaged
if you've done all these things then it's also possible that the machine
is out of time & needs to be checked at a repair shop

I have a brother ls-2125 sewing machine. the upper thread is not catching the bobbin thread properly. help please

  1. Tension
    • Your sewing machine tension controls the rate at which the thread is fed through either the upper section of your machine or through the bobbin case. If your upper or bobbin threads aren't threading properly, sometimes adjusting the tension will correct this problem.
    Timing
    • Your sewing machine works by passing the upper thread through the needle of the sewing machine at precisely the same time the bobbin brings its thread to its uppermost position. If either the needle or the bobbin thread reach these positions too soon or too late, the threads won't interact and create the knots that make the seam. You can throw off your timing by sewing too many layers of fabric or hitting a pin with your needle. See you sewing machine repair facility to correct any timing issues.
    Thread
    • Thread can get snagged or caught in the upper section of your machine or on lint pieces in the lower bobbin section. If your threads aren't catching properly, you may be able to fix it by unthreading and rethreading both your upper thread and bobbin threads.

Having thread breakage probelm and also can't track down the correct bobbin to use on the Elna 2005

have you got the manual for this machine? You can download one from here: http://www.ps2netdrivers.net/manual/elna.2005/

It is a front loading bobbin and removabel bobbin case so I think the bobbin is a plastic "Class 15" - like this http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/bobbins-class-15-plastic-10-pack.aspx

Thread breaking could be caused several factors such as the thread actually being old and brittle, the needle or needle plate having burrs and catching the thread, incorrect threading, bobbin in bobbin case the wrong way, or top tension discs playing up/too tight or thread catching somewhere in the threading path.

I'd suggest that you trouble shoot this and refer to the manual for cleaning instructions. If you can access them clean between the tension discs (turn tension down to zero and "floss" between the by running the selvage edge of a piece of clean cotton scrap through the discs to remove any lint/dye buildup). Wind a fresh bobbin and rethread referring to the manual to ensure the bobbin is turning the right way. New needle and rethread top thread refering to threading diagram. Tension on 5 and test sew again.

If you are still having problems, then the machine may benefit from a service by your local Elna dealer, a good service and clean at least every 2 years is recommended.

The bobbin thread is not catching. I have rethreaded the entire machine multiple times, tried different bobbins, etc. However, the needle and thread are not catching the bobbin thread. The bobbin thread is...

try a new needle
make sure the bobbin is not warped
make sure the bobbin case area is free of lint or loose thread
make sure you hold the upper thread tail while it's going down to pick up the bobbin thread
make sure there is a 2 to 4 in tail for the upper thread to grab
