Ice maker does not shut off when bin is full - shutoff arm stays down, seems pushed down by ice

I'd turn the ice maker off till the bin is low enough to get the arm free. Then watch how it behaves until the problem is sorted out. There should be a turnoff switch near the green light.

I have an LG side by side refrigerator. It won't stop making ice. The arm on the front of the tray is all the way up and it won't go down. It stays up all the time. Any suggestions replace the ice maker would be the simplest. If you're a good DIY'er, shut off the water to the icemaker, remove the maker and try your skills at troubleshooting the unit. The timer on the icemaker is suspect as it controls the water valve. The wire bail you mention only tells the ice maker that the tray is full and to stop making ice by stopping the timer until you push the bail back down. My guess is that the timer motor failed and stopped just as the water was turned on, BAD TIMER!

How do I get the ice maker to produce for the first time

Is the arm that gets pushed up by the ice cubes (in order to stop making ice when it is full) in the down position? it is able to be pushed up and locked so that the icemaker doesn't make at ice and may need to be pushed down.

On off switch for ice maker

The wire arm that travels up ad down when it dumps ice. Lift the arm to the horizontal position and it should stay there. The ice maker is now off. Push the arm back down and the ice maker is on.

My estate ice maker drops the ice like it is suppose to but as the plastic fingers move back to position the on off arm moves up and the ice maker goes to the off position, as long as we continue to push...

The arm is traveling too far. You may can take the plastic endcover off the ice maker to observe the end of the arm and slightly bend it there so it won't go as far.

Ice maker

Hello Carol34,
I'd like to help you but you will first have to provide some additonal information. First off, did it ever work? Not sure what you mean when you refer to the 'part that goes down to release ice just stays down".. are you referring to the arm that shuts off ice making when the bucket is full? Please provide this information so that we can get your ice working again..

Broken ice maker in a GE side by side refrigerator

Most of the time the spring just pops out of the keeper on the ice maker, If you push the feeler arm back and it does not come back out on its own then the spring has poped off. Look where the feeler arm attaches to the ice maker and there is a round spring between the feeler arm and the icemaker housing. There is one hole in the feeler arm ans one on the ice maker housing that the spring pops into. Its usually the spring is out of the hole on the ice maker housing.
