Question about Briggs & Stratton Garden

1 Answer

I am working on a Murray riding lawnmower. It cranks great. The motor runs great, but when I let my foot off the clutch the motor dies. If I am quick and push the clutch down I can stop it from dieing, but that doesn't help its working very much. Thanks

If there is a switch on the grassbox it might be faulty or the box may not be closing tight. Check the switch under the seat and the cutting blades safety
switch, it must be one of these. Stephen

Some mowers have safety switches that unless you are sitting on the seat and the clutch pushed in they will not start. Not sure if this is the answer.

My murray riding mower wont go in to gear ???

If you can select gears when the motors not running but not when it is then your drive belt is dragging.(trying to drive even when the clutch down). This is usually the belt guides not holding the belt in a neat loop off the pulleys front and back when the clutch is down.

Replacing the belt on a Murray Riding Lawnmower.

The simplest way, is to take hold the belt, with the tension from the engine pully/clutch mechanism, then to follow the shape around the rest of the cutter mechanism. (You don't have to worry which direction the belt travels,)
Bearing in mind, the tensioner direction.
Then, you will see the correct route, very quickly:)
Hope you can manage, with that.
