Windows Vista. Access is Denied error message when you try to open a folder or a...

Some of us may have encountered this error especially when opening folder like system volume information for example. You can take ownership of that folder, This is also helpful when you have just cleaned up your system of virus but you cannot open certain drives or folders.
You can also use this technique to disable the permissions of other administrators of the system so that no one but YOU can access the folder.
First I am gonna show you how to take ownership of folders. If you are looking for changing permissions to a disk drive, the please click here4809962.gif
if you are logged in as the administrator by following the steps below.
1)Right click on the folder and click properties.

2)Remove the read only check box and click apply.

4)Click on the owner tab.

5)Click on the Edit button since you want to edit the permissions.

6)This window should pop up. Select your username if you want exclusive access or select administrators to allow all administrators to be able to access it and check the box replace owners on subcontainers and objects.

7) A window will pop up asking you to confirm. Click YES.

8) A message will pop up asking you to close the folder and re-open. Click ok.

C:\ is not accessible access is denied

Try right clicking on the folder, then go to properties, then the security tab. You may have to change or edit some of the permissions in there.

I have a 32 Gig sandisk i have formatted it before i am trying to password protect my info on it with secure access. how do i do it? i cant find or access an exe file on thumb drive. please help

There is software or folder to password option.
The software might cost you.
Click start click on computer to open you should your drives
C: usually your hard drive D: or E: your cd/dvd drives if you have 2 and your usb drive possibly E:or F:
Click on your usb drive right click in it select new folder option you can name it
Then put all files or data you want to password protect
Right click on the folder select properties then click sharing tab tick in make this folder private box
Another message might appear you do not have a password on this account click yes
User and password account will open for you to put in place a password
This might vary depending on your operating system in XP
Select properties then security tab at learn about access controls at the bottom of the box
Also another option to change permissions click edit
Then click deny then click apply

WP Win Error message "access denied"

I think either the file and/or the directory are read-only. In the File Explorer, right clicking on the file will give you the properties including a box indicating if the file is read-only. A quick possibility is to save the file to a new location (with read/write permissions).

If you are the administrator of the computer (or the owner of the folder/file) you can change the status to allow for write privileges by changing that setting in the Properties.

I hope this helps.

(if you recently upgraded your OS or transferred the files from one computer to another, the file might not be "yours" to modify. I know that you can reset the permissions and change the owner but I don't remember the specifics. If you need more information, I can find my reference books if you tell me which OS you are using.)

Hitachi SimpleDrive 320GB: Error moving file: Access denied!

The problem may be that your Security settings for the drive are not configured to give you Full Control.

In Explorer, right-click on the Hitachi drive and choose Properties.
Go to the Security tab.

Find the User you are trying to use and click on it.
Under Permissions, click Edit and enable Full Control for that user.

That should give you the ability to do what you need to.

If Windows won't allow you to change the setting, it's because you don't have Administrator priviledges. In that case, log out and log back in as an Administrator and go back and make the changes.

My 320GB External hard drive is showing access denied when I click on it.

the file you need is called takeownership you have to google for it as it's in one of the forums the file is in the form of a zip file and when extracted you select the takeownership and install a little code into your reg and when you select a folder right mouse button on it and select takeownership this willl get rid of access denied garbage and give you full control over the folder and you do the same on any hard drive.

hope this will solve problems of access denied

Accessing a folder.

This will sound off the wall, but we had something similar to this happen with my last laptop, where it was "access denied" in lots of areas, and we would have to find little backdoor ways to get into control panel and document files. The problem with our computer was that it had previously crashed, and we had rebooted and reinstalled the xp, but didn't have the registration number, so it would run ok, but to get into all those access denied things (which you eventually need to get into) we had to come up with our registration number.
Did it prompt you to enter the product key when you re-installed it?
