Question about IBM Wheelwriter 30 Typewriter

1 Answer

Wheelwriter 6 - Was typing and it just stopped printing. The keys repsond, the printwheel responds but doesn't move forward to make contact with the paper. The ribbons advances, the correction ribbon repspnds but the print wheel never makes contact iwht either ribbon? I've changed print wheels, changed ribbons, turned unit off for an hour to see if cooling down might make a difference. All other deatures appear to be working except the printwheel not making contact with the ribbon and paper.

Solenoid pad is worn out. Look below left of the printwheel down inside the carriage and you should see a little white or opaque rubber pad. It needs to be replaced. You have to take it to a shop for proper repair. I have in the past, replaced it by digging the old one out with tweezers and hook. Then fish the new one in there.

When I type a lower case t, it types out as two consecutive up and down lines

This is a symptom of a bad print wheel. One or more of the spokes on the printwheel are bent or broken. Replacing printwheel is about the only option. Printwheels run about $60.00.

Where is the TYPEWRITER SOLENOID on a IBM Wheelwriter 6 Series II

The "print" solenoid is what hits the hammer that hits the printwheel and makes it type on your paper. If you remove the ribbon and look straight down in the carrier on the left side you can see the solenoid. It is below the blue piece of rubber that sits on the hammer arm. The end of the solenoid is supposed to have a cap on the end of the plunger. This cap gives a specific clearance so when it is activated, it hits the hammer arm to propel it forward to strike the printwheel.

Try cleaning the sensor that lays behind the printwheel that tells the machine the wheel is in the home position, the sensor is in the print carrier. take wheel out and look down and you will see the sensor, clean it off with clean cloth. also put some white out on the top of the printwheel and see if it stops at the same place every time when you turn on and off.

IBM Wheelwriter 6 key stricker is not moving, the print wheel turns but nothing prints.

Remove the P/W look for broken or bent spokes. If the cent sign will print you need a printwheel.

I have a lexmark wheelwriter 6 in started typing real light and then it stopped printing. It looks like it is not hitting the key wheel

Their is a little opaque or white solenoid pad that is cracked and you can order one from any typewriter dealor. I sell them for $ 12.00. Look down on the left side of the printwheel and you should see it or pieces of it. Very small size of pencil erasure .
