Replacing the cartridge should solve the problem, the balancing spool is stuck, replacing it will solve the problem. The valve should look like this http://www.moen.ca/shared/pdf/3170pt.pdf . I have unstuck the spools in the past, soaking it in white vinegar will help to remove build up.

i looked at it and there might be a press in cap with a screw underneath where the grohe label is. there also may be a set screw around the shoulder of the handle where an allen hex wrench fits to losen its clamp on the stem. also.......some handles just snap on and just pull off with some tugging and wiggling them just right.

some will fit but does vary.best bet to find a plumbing supply store such as ferguson, winnelson,or which ever may be by you that has replacement part for older valves or may be able to order. crossing up different makes can be a bit chancey for proper functioning but does work sometimes. not suggested if wanted done right with quality.

You need to replace the stem. This will not cost you a dime; call MOEN and tell them the issue, with the model number, and they will send the replacement part. Many people don't know that MOEN is guaranteed for life (to the original owner)......another words, say you are the original owner :) They will not ask any questions. Good luck! PS Also works on any MOEN faucets you may have.

sounds like the balancing spool is froze up....you may be able to take it apart and free it up...calcium is usually the culprit. If you can not...then you will need to replace it.
