Question about Washing Machines

Maytag neptune washer timer advances to the off position, but never stops spinning or shuts off. door remains locked. if you manually advance the timer, machine will shut off. installed a new timer, same problem. model MAH4000AWWW serial 11280856wd timer 22002867

you said check the timer motor. I beleive the timer motor is internally in the timer, and a new timer was installed. same problem. besides, timer does advance all the way to the off, but keeps spinning there indefinitely. if I manually advance the timer one click, the machine stops. I inspected all connections and they are all fine.

please send an e-mail to me when you have a solution... bwos2000@yahoo.com

you say the timer motor is different from the timer? if so, where would it be located? it is not up in the console. according to the wiring diagram, the machine board CONN P7 terminal plug in, has the timer motor wire BK7 leading directly into the timer jack plug in. how could the timer motor be bad to begin with if the timer advances all the way to the off position?

is it possible a bad tub displacement switch could cause the timer not to stop at the very end by signaling off balance to the board? if so, how to check the 3 displacement switches? if they're OK, what is your final diagnosis?

    thanks

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Please tell me if you have checked the timer motor? The machine control will energize the Timer Motor Output when the timer is set into a Spin1, Spin2, or Spin3 increment 30 seconds before the end of the spin. It will remain energized until the timer inputs change.

The machine control board monitors where the timer is in the cycle and then uses this information to start different operations, such as drain, fill, tumble and spin. Four input wires from the timer to the machine control board inform the machine control board where the timer is in the wash cycle. However, if one or more of these wires are making an intermittent contact with the machine control board, the board can be “misinformed” and will not respond properly.

Check the connections of the timer input wires leading from the timer to the machine control board Also, check wiring of all console switches to ensure no cross-wiring of 24 VDC and 120 VAC circuits.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

    Hi

Make sure the cold water is on and the screens aren't plugged up. Also please check out of balance switches. As you have already replaced the timer but the Washer is still showing the same problem then you need to replace the machine control board. If you have the old-style door lock wax motor with red shaft then it is also required to be replaced.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

    Thanks

    Hi

I would also like to tell you that the timer motor is different from the timer itself. You'll need to check the timer motor connections with the timer and also with the control board.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

    Thanks

    Hi

Please check the service manual for your washer, i have sent you a copy. From the repair /service manual check for the wiring and also check for the control board components.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

    Thanks

Maytag Neptune Front Load Washers No Spin Problem

A class suit was filed in the State of Illinois, USA and then later on won against Maytag in 2004 due to the high failure rate of the wax motor used in the door lock mechanism of their Neptune Front Load Washers. The wax motor is used to activate the door lock switch by extending its shaft when a voltage from the machine control is applied across its terminals. Its failure then leads to the breaking down of components in the expensive machine control board. This is the fact that angered the customers which led to the filing of the class suit.

The obvious symptom of a failed wax motor is the inability of the washer to advance to the spin cycle and the door lock lamp is not turned on. The washer stops momentarily at the end of the wash cycle then continue to tumble as the machine control checks the activation of the door lock switch. The control will not allow a spin speed higher than 51 revolutions per minute (RPM) unless the door lock switch is activated by the wax motor. It is a safety feature of the washer to prevent accident due to accidental opening of the washer door during a high speed spin.

Customers who purchased the Neptune Front Load Washers in the USA after April 1, 1997 and before August 9, 2004 are Class members and eligible for the repair reimbursement, replacement cost, or purchase certificate depending on the length of service of the machine. Call up Maytag at 1-888-MAYTAG (1-888-629824) for more information.

The models included in the class suit are as follows: MLE2000AYW, MLE2000AWW, MLE2000AZW, MLG2000AWW (Gas Stack Unit), MAH3000AAW, MAH3000AEW, MAH3000AGW, MAH3000AWA, MAH3000AWW, MAH3000BGW, MAH4000AWW, MAH4000BWW, MAH4000AWQ, MAH4000BWQ, MAH5500AWW, MAH5500BWW, MAH5500BWW, MAH5500BWQ, MAH55FLBWW, MAH55FLBWQ, MAH6500AWW, MAH6500AWQ, MAH7500AWW, MAH7500AWQ, MAH7550AAW, MAH7550AGW.

Maytag Neptune model MLE2000AYW. Why does it keep shutting down?

SORRY BUT UR QUESTION IS CONFUSING? U SAY IT SHUTS DOWNS THEN U SAY IT DOES NOT AGITATE? IF NO AGITATION I WOULD CHECK THE WATER PRESSURE SWITCH. UR DOOR SWITCH IS NOT LIKELY TO GO OFF AND ON, WHEN IT GOES BAD IT STOPS WORKING ALL TOGETHER. LESS U HAVE A BAD ACTUATOR? U CAN CHECK IT WITH A METER TO VERIFY , SEE PICS

AS FOR UR TIMER DOES IT ADVANCE ON ITS OWN? OR STICKING AND STOPPING AT A CERTAIN CYCLE?

Im having trouble with my maytag neptune tl washer it wont finish the spin cycle

Please see the following Whirlpool / Maytag service manual for Neptune washers.
https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/dc59d905140253e18525729c005765f4/$FILE/Maytag_Neptune_Washer.pdf

On page 3-1 the manual explains that if the washer shuts off during the spin cycle, the problem points to a weak spring in the door lock mechanism.

"Shuts OFF In The Middle Of The Spin Cycle:
During the spin cycle, the machine control
monitors the door lock mechanism to ensure
the door is locked. This is done through the
door lock enable switch. During "lock mode,"
the shaft of the door lock mechanism is
pressed forward by the door lock wax motor,
and the shaft presses in the button of the door
lock enable switch. If the machine control
board sees the switch OPEN during the spin
cycle, the machine control board will automatically
shut the washer OFF. This is caused
by a weak spring in the door lock wax motor.
Replace the complete door lock mechanism.

Washer timer advances all the way to off, but never stops. washer just keeps spinning. new timer is not the solution.

IF THE TIMER HAS BEEN REPLACED AND SOUNDS LIKE IT'S WORKING THERE HAS TO BE A WIRE OUT OF PLACE. THE TIMES HAS CONTACTS THRU OUT THE DIAL TO PUT MACHING INTO DIFFERANT CYCLES AT THE STOP CYCLE THE WASHER SHOULD STOP IF THE CONTACTS ARE GOOD

d sounds as if your having a timer issue here. not recognizing the end of cycle and entering a new one ( bad timer).. as far as time of unlocking this is normal, theres a wax motor holding the door shut for i believe 3 min's.. and the water sloshing sounds is also normal they use a "water filled" balance ring around the perimeter of tub to help with the overall balance of machine
