The carriage jam message wont go away on my HP4385 and I have tried all solutions on the HP site. Help!

Is it connected through LAN or USB,
if it is installed on LAN oen its web page

go to system option and service. click on service it will take few minutes,

Step one: Print a self-test report Follow the steps below:

  1. Press the Power button to turn on the product.
  2. Press Setup on the product control panel.
  3. Press the right arrow button until Print Report displays on the control panel display, and then press OK . The self-test report prints.
  4. Analyze the results:
    • If the product prints a self-test report, there is no need to follow the remaining steps, because the error message might be false. Try to print something from the computer.
    • If the product does not print a self-test report, proceed to the next step.
Step two: Clear the paper path Follow the steps below to clear the product of any jammed paper.
  1. Make sure the product is on, and then disconnect the power cord and the USB or Ethernet cable from the back of the product. Do not reconnect them until instructed to later.
  2. Open the top access door by lifting from the front center of the product until the door locks into place.

  1. Note where the carriage is stuck and look for jammed paper. A paper jam can cause the error message and the carriage stall. Paper might be jammed in different locations and might cause the carriage to be stuck in the middle of the product or on the right or left side.
  2. Remove any jammed paper. Follow these instructions if the carriage is stuck on the right side or the left side of the product:
    1. Check for and remove any paper or object that might be restricting the carriage.
    2. Manually move the carriage to the opposite side of the product.
    3. Check the paper path all the way to the side on which the carriage was initially stuck. Remove any paper along the path.
    Follow these instructions if the carriage is stuck in the middle of the product:
    1. Check for and remove any paper or object that might be restricting the carriage.
    2. Manually move the carriage all the way to the left side of the product.
    3. Check the paper path all the way to the right side and remove any paper along the path.
    4. Manually move the carriage all the way to the right side of the product.
    5. Check the paper path all the way to the left side and remove any paper along the path.
  3. Remove the rear access door or duplexer (if installed) from the back of the product. To remove, press in the tabs on the left and right side, and pull it away from the product.
  4. Check for and remove any paper still in the product.
  5. Replace the rear access door or duplexer, and then close the top access door.
  6. Reconnect only the power cord (do not connect the USB or Ethernet cables at this time). If the product does not automatically turn on, press the Power button.
  7. Check the power light.
    • If the power light is on, reconnect the USB or Ethernet cable to the product, and then print a self-test report as done in Step one.
    • If the power light is blinking or not on and the carriage is still stuck, reconnect the USB or Ethernet cable to the product, and then proceed to Step three.
Step three: Plug the All-in-One directly into a wall outlet Use these steps to make sure the product is properly connected to a suitable power source.
  1. Make sure the computer and the product have a three-prong power plug.
  2. Remove the product power cord from any power strips or surge suppressors, and then plug it directly into a grounded wall outlet.
  3. Try the print job again to see if this step resolved the issue. If this did not resolve the issue, proceed to the next step.

Continuous c5280 "carriage jam" error message


If you already followed these instructions, the last thing to do is to service the printer. I don't know of any self-fix options for this printer. It's worth validating that you've already completed these steps as described.

I just changed the (2) ink cartridges in my HP PCS 1610 All-in-One HP printer and now get an error message "CARRIAGE JAM - OPEN DOOR. CLEAR CARRIAGE JAM, AND THEN PRESS OK." I don't see any jam...


Have you tried moving the carriage to see if it really is jammed? Maybe you haven't put the levers down properly on your new cartridges....remove them, see if the carriage slides, then refit them and check the carriage again. You wont visually 'see' a carriage jam,; you have to try moving it. By the way, if it doesn't move, DONT force it to try and overcome the jam try and reason out why it doesn't move.

Carriage Jam problem. Have gone through complete troubleshooting routine, but the message just won't go away. Says ""Carriage Jam". No debris to left or right of carriage. In fact, the jam was in the paper...


This error message is displayed by the printer when paper is jammed in one or more locations. In such a case, users are recommended to remove the jammed paper from the specified location. The entire paper path must be checked for any pieces of paper. To stop the message, open and close the top most cover of the printer. Lastly, verify the flags and the sensors. If the problem persists, the cause of the error message could be a broken sensor or sensor lever.

If either a paper jam or blocked carriage error message appears on
the control panel display, there might be some packing material inside the HP allin-
one. Lift open the print-carriage access door. The orange shipping lock might
still be in place on the left side of the HP all-in-one. Pull out the orange shipping
lock and throw it away

Carriage jam message


I had this same problem and spend hours working on it. Took the side panels apart to get a better look. Nothing anyone said fixed the issue. Not even the link everyone keeps posting to HP's carriage jam fix. Was out of solutions and about to give up and order a new printer. There was one last thing I had to try that I didn't think was going to work, but I had a theory. Right after I tested this solution it started working again. This worked for me, but anyone who has tried every and have not got their printer to work can try it.

My Solution: Open the front covers and look inside. Just above the metal rail that the carriage travels on there is a thin plastic strip about 1/4 in. width and should have a glossy shine to it. I believe this is some kind of positioner. It runs through the carriage and gives it some kind of position. After years of use, it'll become dirty with ink. I used some tissue and alcohol and wiped the strip clean. It worked perfectly fine right after. Below is a picture of the strip I underlined with a yellow line.

HP Officejet 5110 - Carriage Jam Message


I have an Hp Officejet 5110. I have an error message saying "Open door,clear carriage jam, then press enter". But where is its door? How can I clear the carriage jam?

I tried pressing the # & 6 at the same time, but the error message still there.
