Question about Windchaser 3-way Oscillating Fan

2 Answers

Humming noise from motor of oscillating fan.

I have a Windchaser oscillating fan that suddenly quit working. When I turn it on the motor just hums and the blades act like they are trying to turn but won't. I got it going at first by taking the cover off and manually turning the blades, but now that wont work. I took the motor apart and lubricated the shaft with wd40. No luck so I believe it is in the motor. Any way to test it?

Wd-40 is not a very good lubricant. It only lasts fror a few days and then dries up again. In order to get your fan working again, take some 3-in one oil and put a drop at the bearing side of each bearing top and bottom with the shaft upright. Spuin and tap the motor briskly with a small tack hammer or screw driver handle. This will impact and allow the oil to get into the bearings Keep tapping and turning until you feel it lighten up a spin freely. Turn it over and do the same thing again. I garuntee that all will be fine after this.

Lubrication problem? Check if the fan is stiff. If it moves with ease using your hand to spin it without power, also check if it has a start up capacitor. Then check it, bulging, shorted or dried up. Replace it if this appears.

Just for input.

It does not work !

Check the power cord and switch if the unit is completely dead. If there is a humming noise, check the bearings in the motor and gearbox (gearboxes are generally found only in oscillating fans).

All the leds turn on, incluiding the tower fan oscillate, But the essential doesn't work "it doesn't ventilate". What do you suggest?

check the fan if it is working.. if not ,can you hear any humming sound coming from the motor? if there is you need to remove the cover, then remove the circular fan,try to turn on the unit without a fan if the motor is running then just clean the rust in the bushing and shaft of fan by using sand paper. then put lubricant in the shaft and bushing(oil or wd40 or grease). make sure that you remember all the parts and the position of it.. good luck

If the humming is your compressor running (feel the large copper line going into the unit, it should feel cold aftter a few minutes of run time) then the fan motor or the capacitor or both need to be replaced, check for voltage to the fan motor when the unit is "humming" if it has voltage and will not start replace the fan motor and the capacitor. hope this helps.

Dryer quit working, When I turn the timer to desired cycle and push start it makes a Humming noise but does not tumble?

The humming noise is more than likely your drive motor. Replace your drive motor.

Humming noise

IT sounds like the fan bearings are going out already, or have flat spots on them that cause vibration at speed. Try calling the manufacturer and tell them the fan either quit working or is about to quit.
