It sounds like the thermocouple has gone faulty. This is part of your temperature control system. Best to have it checked out by an appliance repairman. Good luck, Dana

Tes, it's a matter of unscrewing the old one and screwing in the new one then just threading it to where it came from. However you're going to have to remove panels and the such to get to it and it can get very confusing, also you'd have to empty the contents of the fridge into a cooler for some time. The thermocouple is a long aluminum collored tube about the thickness of a Q-Tip shaft. It will be the only piece of the mechanics of the fridge that fits that description.Just trace it back to where it mounts and change it over. You may, be able to find it at Home Depot or Lowes, but you definatly can get it from the manufacturers site online.

Why do I need a separate temperature control for my fridge and freezer?

For the same reason you want them at different temps.
Older single controls would affect both temperatures. So if you wanted the ice cream to be a little softer, the milk spoiled. If you wanted the meat to stay frozen longer, the lettuce got iced.

Hi Gary,

If your evaporator is not completely frosting over (top to bottom) this normally means the unit doesn't have a proper charge or the compressor can't pump all the freon as it needs to. I would check the charge, this should read "0", if less not enough, if higher than the compressor is failing. I hope this helps.

Freezer is working OK (ice cream soft), refrigerator is not working...milk spoiled etc. What to do? Possible self-fixes?

Check under the fridge to assure the coils are clean, if not vacuum and clean with a brush accordingly. While you're down there, make sure the condenser fan motor is turning. Check inside the freezer compartment to make sure the evaperator fan is running.

Fridge part of my side by side registers above 40, spoils milk; freezer section which is frost free gets frosty buildup in in; ice maker quit working also. freeze food still?

Look into the back of the freezer to see if frost is building up on the rear panel. If yes that is a sign of the defrost system failed. I will need your model number. When most refrigerators begin the problem it is a sign that defrost is not happening. Ice makers stop working above 5 degrees. Send me your model number and I will help you get this solved or pointed in the right direction, Sea Breeze

Freezer not freezing ice cream and milk

Icecream is a tough call. Some brands have to many artaficial ingredients and that doesnt get solid. What temps are you getting in the freezer? Is everything else frozen solid?

Fridge wont get cold and freezer gets cold then gets warm

Sounds like to me you have a defrost issue. If your fridge is only 2 months old don't sweat it and call out a Whirlpool warrenty certified tech. to fix the problem. And sorry to say age does not matter with fridges any more. The good ole days of fridges lasting 20 years is over now it's 12 years if your lucky.

Freezer/fridge won't get cold enough

Madezmom, you have a defrost issue. If your model starts with 106 you more than likley have a bad defrost bi-metal, I will attach a picture of bad one. This sits on the evaporator in the freezer section behind the panel. You will have to remove the shelves and remove the back panel. Defrost the evaporator completely. The part number for the bi-metal is 2196155. See if yours is bulged like the one in the attached photo. If so, that's your back.
