Question about DISH Network ViP622 DVR DTV Receiver / 180-Hours Video Recorder

Dish network vip622 freezes and needs to be reset... just to freeze and need to be reset again and again. Dish thinks it is satellite signal and is sending someone to the house. Some websites point to a hard drive issue. Not sure, but I live in New Mexico with no trees and no neighbors for 1/4 mile. Basically, there is nothing that could possibly obstruct the view of the southern sky... or the north, west and east for that matter. Thoughts?

The VIP622 has a freezing/rebooting issue. It is very unlikely that it is a signal issue. Could be a known grounding fault issue with the 622. There is an easy way to fix it if that is the case. Unplug the DVR, remove any of the coax cables in the back of the DVR, touch the center wire against the outside metal casing, then re-attach the cables.

Beyond that, you are just rebooting, and holding the power button for five seconds to do a reset a few times to see if it takes. If not, you may need a replacement DVR. It is even possible that you may go through a few before you get one that works reliably again.

Mr Coster is right if it freezes its more than likely a grounding issues. Grounding can be anything connected to the rcvr. The dish/the electrical power/ or even the phone line.

What is your signal strenth, I know some people just throw these things in and don't bother to peak them out , then if you have a lot of wind they can be knocked off a little, also if yours is on a pole and they did not concrete it in as so many of them do, it can move. If your signal strenth is below 70% then that is the problem.

It says no info on the programs I want to record and won't record them. The guide also shows no info in those areas.


Make sure the receiver is powered off each night so it can receive updates through the satellite to the guide.

You can force a guide download by unplugging the receiver for 10 seconds and plugging it back in. If that doesn't work, you can run a check switch test from Menu > System Setup > Installation > Point Dish > Check Switch > Test. Let it finish, then exit out of the menu and let it acquire signal and download the guide.

When playing back a recorded program, the play back freezes and the card must be recycled.

Hello, Daniel Busa with Dish Network's customer service department. This issue is called corrupted recordings, which can be a bad hard drive or poor signal try deleting all of the bad recordings and unplugging the receiver for ten seconds.

Hello, my name is Daniel Busa with Dish Network customer service. Whats probably causing the issue would be that either you're not getting high enough signal strength on the 61.5 satellite. Otherwise there could be an issue with the box if you swap it with another reciever in the home, and the issue follws it you'll need a new box.

Light in the set box is not changing red light is flickering. Green light is not coming inspite of changing the batteries in the remote control. I am having Dish TV in my house.

Hi, this is Mary with Dish Network Customer Service. It sounds like you are experiencing a power issue with your Dish network VIP622 DVR. You can try resetting the Receiver box by unplugging it for 10 seconds (if it is plugged into a surge protector, for the purpose of troubleshooting, plug directly into a wall outlet). Wait for receiver to reacquire satellite signal. If you are still having an issue, you will need to contact Dish Network because the receiver box will probably need to be replaced. When we use the DVR to record, during playback it skips, freezes and pauses continually. It has already been replace once and the new one does the same thing.

It seems like there is a possible grounding issue with your satellite which could cause the hard rive to become corrupted and have the issues you have explained. It is very uncommon for multiple receivers to have the same problem without something else causing it.

I have vip 622 when ipress mode it tell me this feather not supported


When you get that message, the features are not supported, are you trying to pause, fast forward, rewind, or possibly record? Normally unplugging the receiver from your electrical outlet for about 10 seconds and plugging back in will take care of this problem. This will reboot the receiver and re-acquire satellite signal. If this does not resolve the issue, we may need to replace the receiver. I hope this helps.

Can't find sat 129. Had to move dish to replace roof.

If you area aligning your dish yourself go to point dish screen ( menu 6-1-1) then highlight satellite and choose 129, use the signal meter and dish adjustments to locate 129 by getting a green siganl bar, (note: be sure you are standing behind your dish when aligning and not in front of it)
