Dark shadow on right side of picture

Canon rebel XTi-
Camera is 3 months old; when I use the flash to take pictures, the pictures have a dark shadow over the right side; does not do it all the time and seems to do it more when camera is turned vertical ( that's weird I know) is it the camera, the flash, the card? I reformated the card and it still does it

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND COULD NOT FIND A SOLUTION ON CANON'S WEBSITE. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM? I USE THE 28-135 ULTRSONIC LENSES ON A REBEL XT.

I am having the same problem. I bought my camera in February. The problem started in November. I get the diagonal shadow when I use the camera in the vertical position in auto mode and the flash is on.

a shadow appears on the right hand corner of my pictures. Very annoying. as camera is brand new. Any suggestions on what it could be, and a possible solution to get rid of it.

Sounds like a shutter leaf dropping into the image. however, they are usually horizontal and more likely to manifest when in landscape mode. (horizontal, normal)
try using flash pointed up to ceiling.
also, could need to check for auto sync speed setting. usually 1/125 to 1/60. if its off, it could be catching the shutter in the wrong place.
check manual for settings for using flash.

WHY DID MY PICTURES LOOK DARK WHEN I TOOK THEM OUTSIDE USING THE AUTOMATIC SETTING?

Was everything set automatic?
Was it a cloudy day?
Did you take pictures in the sun of an object in shadow?
Are your indoor pictures normal?
If you are sure everything was OK, no shadows, no bright objects in the picture, ISO was not set 400, flash was not forced on, etc., call Canon. There are adjustments that calibrate the camera for outdoors. It may need to be recalibrated.

Canon 400D, Auto setting, images too dark

Automatic settings are not useful in all conditions. The built in flash is not good over 20 ft. Under low light conditions, an external flash is better option, but it costs additional too. Remember that shooting under low light conditions is always a difficult task. By the way, I don't know about such common problem in Canon XTi

Why does the word, ''busy'' pop up on the canon rebel xti?

If the flash fires a full charge(eg. in a dark environment) then this message will appear whilst it recharges. If the message appears all the time and you cannot take a photo there is most likely a problem. Try taking some pictures without the flash card to eliminate that first.

Can't download pictures from canon rebel xti to zoombrowser

You can copy the photos to a temp directory, then have zoombrowser import the photos from that temp directory (instead of directly from the camera). This way you can utilize zoombrowser's naming function during the import.

Built-in flash does not work

DO NOT MESS with a new camera (or any other new equipment).
Take/send it back to the vendor, The purchaser has rights also. Number one it must work.
I don't know your location but in UK (& Europe) we have very strict consumer legislation.

the camera is firing the flash to help it auto focus, the only way to stop it find an area of the picture that has more light/contrast or switch to manual focusing.

Transfer from XTI camera to PC

Seems to be a common problem with the XTi. Some say it's designed to underexpose to avoid washing out the bright parts of scene. Personally I found it a pita. I had to PhotoShop each shot.So I sent it back to the repair facility. They re-calibrated it. Now it works fine.
