Can I hook up external speakers when my monitor already has speakers? If so can they operate together, or do I have to disable the moniter speakers?

1.Open Sound panel
2.Select Speakers as the default playback device
3.Go to the "Recording" tab
4.Right click and enable "Show Disabled Devices"
5.A recording device called "Wave Out Mix", "Mono Mix" or "Stereo Mix" (this was my case) should appear
6.Right click on the new device and click "Enable"
7.Right click on the new device and click "Set as Default Device"
8.Double click on the new device to open the Properties window
9.Go to the "Listen" tab
10.Click on the "Listen to this device" checkbox
11.Select your HDMI device from the "Playback through this device" list

The answer is it depends. it depends on whether you but powered speakeers, which would allow you to use both, or not.

You can and they will run together. You may have to go into the sound settings so both work together but generally they will work once connected to the computer.

Yes you will be fine as long as you connect the external to the PC rather than the monitor

Can i hook up speakers to an lg e2340v moniter to watch netflix? i have it hooked up through hdmi. I have no sound though.

The monitor does not have sound passthru feature so the speakers would not be able to work that way. You can connect the speakers to the Roku box in the audio out jacks. You will need to get a cable from radio shack to make the connection.

Just hooked up computer and monitor and cant get any sound to play through moniter. do we need external speakers?

The Samsung SyncMaster 2233BW does not have built-in speakers, so yes, you need external speakers separately for sound.

Hp w2207 monitor has no sound

Does the moniter have internal speakers? If so then there is a volume controller option on the moniter or else you have to use external speakers.

Hannspree Monitor speakers wont work

I don't know if I caused the problem or not. I hooked up my new Hannspree HF237 monitor to my HP pc, and the sound wasn't loud enough so I hooked up my external speakers, and got nothing. So I disabled one without the other, and still got nothing. Now I can't even get the monitor's sound to come back on. Any ideas?

No speaker hook up on new moniter

If your old monitor was a Compaq, it had slots for the speakers to hang on and provided the power for the speakers. The speakers still got their input from a cable that plugged into the computer sound output jack. If those speakers are the style Compaq supplied when I worked at a Compaq service shop, they originally came with metal stands that fit into slots on the back so you could stand them up on their own, and a 12-volt power adapter so you could use them without the monitor. If you don't have those pieces, you can buy a suitable power adapter (12 volts DC at 1 amp) at Radio Shack but the speaker stands are hard to find. You could try eBay, or just make a holder of some kind. (A friend of mine used those little wooden stands you can buy to display plates to hold her speakers when she got a new monitor. They worked out pretty well.)

Or you can replace the speakers. A new set would have everything you need. But those Compaq speakers sounded pretty good, so if they're still working you might want to keep them.
