Dell 1525 dont maneger is dosent see in the screen how i reformat

Reformatting the hard drive of a computer is sometimes an unavoidable task. Whether you're an IT professional or a private user, there are times when the hard drive has to be totally wiped. These reasons range from reallocating a computer to another user, selling it or donating it, installing a larger internal hard drive or even just to eradicate some flaky behavior. Unless the computer is ancient, reformatting a Dell laptop is a moderately easy process.

Back up any data on the PC that you plan on saving. This can be accomplished by using burnable CDs or DVDs, attaching an external hard drive, using an online backup process or hooking up to the corporate backup server.

  • 2 reformat-dell-laptop-1.2-800x800.jpg Older flavors of Windows include a bootable floppy Set the boot order on the laptop. This tells the computer the order that it looks for a bootable disc. The default is the C: drive, but this can be changed by holding down the Delete key while booting the computer. If you're using a floppy, which is common with early versions of Windows, select the A: drive. If you're using the CD or DVD, then select that drive (usually the D: drive) by using the up and down arrow keys. Save your preference and exit.
  • 3 reformat-dell-laptop-1.3-800x800.jpg A software restore CD Insert the media (floppy or CD/DVD) into the computer, and then reboot. Select reformat and install, which will erase all the data on the drive and install a fresh copy of Windows.
  • 4 reformat-dell-laptop-1.4-800x800.jpg 2.5-inch internal hard drive Keep an eye on the process, as earlier versions of Windows often require manual intervention such as selecting options, or pressing the Enter key at certain times. More recent versions of Windows are typically autorun.
  • 5 reformat-dell-laptop-1.5-800x800.jpg Disk image utility Follow the prompts during the installation and after rebooting it. Use the restore CD to install any additional drivers and utilities. Run the Windows updates, and if you're planning on keeping the computer (or assigning it to another user), then install any necessary applications and data files, and configure the preferences, email and printers.

I was looking for step-by-step install guide to putting new hard drive and loading Windows XP on my Dell Inspiron E1505?? I purchased a WD 320GB SATA hard drive to replace my dead 80gb hard drive....Dell...

All you've got to do is:

    1) Insert the new hard drive.
    2) Press the F8 key as the laptop boots. This will take you into the BIOS.
    3) Locate the disk drive priority setting in the bios.
    4) Set Priority 1 to your CD/DVD drive and priority 2 to the 320GB hard drive.
    5) Save settings and exit the BIOS. This should reboot your laptop.
    6) Insert the Windows XP CD.
    7) It should not start the setup as it recognises the CD.
    8) I will recommend that you format the drive before you install, go along with the format (make sure it does a full format).
    9) After the format it will reboot your system.
    10) You will be prompted with a message like "Press any key to boot form CD", DON'T press anything otherwise it will start all over again.
    11) Now it should start the install. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Installed new HD into Dell 1720 Inspiron after getting the 0146 errr code. Once I installed the HD I began the installation of Vista. It almost finished then the screen went back with the cursor...

you need to format the hdd first before you can successfully install Vista.

try booting from cd/dvd by pressing F12 on the Dell screen.

    - Select optical disk drive dvd/cdrw and press Enter
    - Press Any key to boot from CD or keep tapping the spacebar.
    - If you see Windows Setup EMS enbaled, press Enter.
    - Keep clicking next until you are asked "Where do you want to install windows?"
    - Click Drive options Advance
    - Click or select to highlight the partition to where you want to install Vista
    - on that same windows, click "Delete" and OK
    - Click "NEW" and then click "Apply"
    - Click "Format" and then "OK"
    - After that, you may now click "Next"
Now windows vista should be installed in your computer and on its last boot, it will ask you to create a profile (username and password).

Virus removal complete now cannot reboot

Well you would either need to do a system recovery, using the "Ctrl + F10" shortcut at the dell bios splash screen when you first turn on your machine, or you will have to call Dell and have them send you another copy of your OS (this may cost you some money, so be prepared.) Then reinstall using the disk.

    Dell inspiron 1420 startup error

You need to cheat a little. First try to boot into safe mode by pressing the f8 key as soon as you hit the power (and keeping your fingers crossed on the other hand that it notices your doing this). Before you get too depressed just try booting into safe mode and then reboot normally. That may be all it take to fix it. Try this a few times before getting into the more serious fixes.

If you can get into safe mode you can simply copy your files off to a usb data drive. Those will still work. You may be able to use the wired network card if you select safe mode with network access. But don't count on that. The cd/dvd will not work so you can't burn it to disk. A flash drive will work on the usb while a external hard drive that connect via usb usually won't as it needs drivers.

The other way is to boot using a bootable cd. If you can get a vista install cd you can install over the top of your existing windows and retain your settings. If you don't know where everything is then you need to be a bit creative and use something like the demo Ubuntu cd that boots into a windows like operating system that will allow you to copy stuff over the network to the usb drive or the network.

If you have a friend with the right laptop or desktop you can take the drive out and set it up as a second drive. When they boot normally they then can see your drive and just copy burn or move your stuff. This is what I do in the shop when the existing system is too messed up to work with. There may be the odd thing you won't get access to but you should get most of it.

Can you please assist me how to install XP or any OS in hp laptop which has os windows vista?

    1) You must have a Bootable O/S CD/DVD
    2) You will have to do a clean installation of O/S

If installing Win XP be sure that there are Drivers for the Laptop available for Win XP. If not some of your hardware will not function properly.
