The software that came with the laptop is "trialware" meaning you can use it for a period of time, usually 90 days. After that you need to purchase a license. Once you purchase, you'll get an activation code.
Did you actually purchase the software? It usually comes with a 30 or 60 day trial which also gives you a Key Code just for the trial version. You may want to look at that Product Key and make sure it's not just a trial version code.
If you bought this in a MS Office box, the code is usually on a tag at the back of your Microsoft Office CD-ROM case (same as the picture in your question). Open up the case (not easy to do with the strange case that Microsoft uses!) - you can see the golden CD ROM. With the case open, turn over the case and you should see a Product Key sticker at the back with a very long number. You need to enter the number to activate your software.
However, if you got this as part of a system purchase (PC, laptop), there may be a trial date period which expires after a period of time and asks for the key after then. At that point, you need to purchase the software.
The correct style for the activation codes for Microsoft Office Professional 2007 is a mix of letters and numbers. It might help to enter the letters with the caps lock on. It is easy to mis-type codes when they are that long, but just be careful and double check your entry. If your program is asking you for an activation code that only has numbers then there is something definitely wrong with your software. There should be a telephone number in your package for Microsoft support. You should call them, tell them what your activation code is, and what error messages come up when you try to enter the code. If necessary they can supply you with another code. They might ask you to fax them a proof of purchase before giving you another code so make sure you have your receipt with you when you call.

i think u are probably out of luck. this software looks like it came from the late 90s and will work with anything up to xp, but vista & win7 are a whole different ballgame. best solution, buy an old laptop with win98 or 2000 or xp super cheap on ebay, or beg one from a friend, and use ur software on it there in the kitchen. that's what i do with my old laptop. works great if u have room in the kitchen lol
also transfer ur fave recipes from 20,000 recipes to a recipe organizer program like mastercook, it's much much better for searching plus u can enter 1000s of new recipes from anywhere. u can get older versions of mastercook for $5 on ebay. version 8 works just great for me with winxp. (WARNING if ur interested in mastercook on ur NEW computer, get version 11, the older ones DON'T work w/Vista or win7.)
Here is how to load and activate Quickbooks 2005 on Vista...
First of all, if you already have an activated copy of QuickBooks 2005 on another computer open it and go to "help" "my license information" and print this out so you have the details needed for activating your reinstalled copy (you don't need a fresh activation key and you may have trouble getting one as QuickBooks 2005 is no longer supported by Intuit).
On your new Vista computer, insert the QuickBooks CD but cancel any program install windows that pop up. Go to my computer and find setup.exe on the CD, right click and select the option to "run as administrator"
Once installed, navigate to the QuickBooks folder on your hard drive (typically C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks) right click on QB32.exe and on the compatibility tab select both Disable visual themes" and "run as adminstrator". Now open this file to run QuickBooks and select "file" "Update QuickBooks" to download and install all updates. QuickBooks will not work properly until you have downloaded the updates, closed and reopened the program.
I had problems with activation but I got around this by unplugging my network cable so that I had no internet connection. If you run QuickBooks without an internet connection, when the screen pops up asking you to "activate" click next and the screen to enter your license details will appear. enter your details (printed out from your previous installation) and you are done. You can restore the internet connection and use QuickBooks 2005 normally.
Yes, Office Home and Student 2007 is compatible with your laptop. One question: are you trying to enter your activation product key into the installed version of Office 2007 trial that is on the laptop? It will not work, if you are.
You need to contact Microsoft, and they will help you with your problem. If I were you, I would start HERE.
