Question about Drills

Ryobi HP 961

I own a Ryobi HP 961. The cordless batteries are not holding a charge. When I do get the batteries charged the power on the drill is very minimal. It just about works. What do I do?

Look at the cost of new batteries, sometimes for a few more dollars its better to just buy new cordless.some brands are very expensive on the replacement batteries.

Mycordless ryobi 12v drill battery not charging what can b problem

It probably is because the battery has failed, maybe you have not charged for a long period and put it away discharged, maybe put a meter across the terminals to see the voltage, even if flat it should still read 12v or not far short, if its much less than that then I am afraid you need a new battery, you can probably get one here Ryobi cordless power tool drill screwdriver battery replacement

Battery will not hold a charge

If the battery is one year old, it is shot. I have about 20 batteries under the bench and about 5 cordless drills , saws, lights, you name it , I won't buy anymore. I have a bunch of them, the batteries don't last. It is cheaper to buy a new kit with new batteries than to replace the batteries. No more.

Wont charge

One thing I have found with the ryobi 18V batteries in particular, and cordless tool batteries in general, is that if the battery is completely dead, the charger simply will not recognize it. This is referred to as a "threshold level" by some manufacturers. One solution that has worked well for me in the past is to take a battery that is known to be good and has a charge and use small jumpers to hook it to the problem battery, terminal for terminal, for about 1 to 1 1/2 minutes, much like jumpstarting a car. Then place the problem battery back in the charger and more often then not, it will take a full charge. Wear safety glasses any time you're messing around with batteries, because although the risk of explosion is minimal, it is still a risk.
