Question about JVC AV-36230 36" TV
Hello Munroe the problem is coming from a fautly flyback transformer or a faulty horizontal output transistor, what i would suggest is tap your tv set on the side if the picture comes up than this is bad soldering on the one of this circuits above and this is an easy fix, if it turns out to be bad solder on the pc board take it to a near by tv repair shop this fix should not be more than 50 dollars or so depends on the repair shop,Thank You hope this helps have anymore questions feel free to ask me.

There may be dry joints in the Line Stage where the Line Transformer is situated. The move may have loosened some components off the board. If not familiar with TV Electronics please refer to a repair technician. Regards and good luck, JUS004

SOURCE: Toshiba 36 inch TV (8 Years Old)
If the shrinkage is just the top & bottom then it is relatively easy/low cost fix. Most probably, a capacitor in the vertical section is nearing end of its life. This would be the biggest of the bunch and would be something like 47uF/50V.
If however, the shrinkage is on all four sides, then it is the master power supply that is at fault. Chances are the main B+ is getting low which cold be caused by the big filter capacitor or an erratic regulator. This is not a simple fix and would require the services of a qualified professional.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.

no ....the tube will end up after 20 yrs in 10 yr old sony...
it is worth if u fix it. randomly going black means...horizontal driver trans former is the problem..or any loose contact with the 110 volt supply to that transformer,,or any loose contact with line o/p transformer.. (horizontal driver transformer may be gone
then tv behaves like this) if any other parts gone tv wont come back.... there may be a loose contact call a service pro..

Testimonial: "Great response... I basically needed to know if it is worth fixing (if its the tube) I like this tv and don't want to ditch for a new flat screen. thx"
This is what is called the vertical IC, This is a flat ic on a heatsink and it could be label LA-______ something, I don't remember if it's 1601 location or what. also change out caps, like 100uf and 220uf, around this ic also loose connection are a problem with this too.
