Well the fact that when you put in a cd it does not see it indicates that either the CD Drive is not being detected or the drive has gone faulty and needs replacing. First Look in the bios of the computer to see if it is seen the drives section. If it is there then look in windows under control panel , system, device manager. Now look under DVD/CD Roms drives (this may differ slightly in XP) to see if in there with no error against it. If not and not in the bios either then the drive has failed. If however it shows in DVD/CD Roms with no error then try a different make of cd/DVD. If this works then the Bios of the drive will need updating. This info is on the manufacturers website. Good luck.
Hello, i kinda need alittle more info, but sometimes you can try an windows update. Can you here the cd drive trying to run? It could be a number of things, drive went bad, bad driver. Has it been working?
If you cannot play a CD on your computer. Please try the following:
1. Make sure the IDE cables are properly seated in the CD Drive. Also try to reseat the power cable connecting your power supply to the CD Drive.
2. Make sure the CDROM is recognized by your system. To check if its recognize go to system properties then hardware. Choose Device manager and look for CD/DVD drives - check if it has a yellow question mark on it. If it has install a driver for that device or use windows update to update the driver.
3. If you can find another CD Drive. Try installing it on your system.
4. Install or update your windows media player. You can also use VLC player.
Thanks. Please rate. Let me know if you need further assistance.
You must have the burner program (roxio or nero) identify the CD/DVD RW Drive. If the burner program didn't come with the drive at the time of purchase go to roxio or nero site and look for updates for your particular drive. If you don't have that info...look in divice manager under CD/DVD-Rom Drives and it will tell you. Failing that...look for updates of "Firmware" at the manufacturer of your drive... Good luck...hope this helps
After you get that info you should have a screen that list the different components of your system. You will want to click the + beside CD/DVD. Then you will want to look for your model number that you listed above and dowload wants available for it.
It usually automatially installs and corrects the issue but if not you may want to open the device manager by clicking Start > Run and typing devmgmt.msc. This willl take you to the Device Manager. Open the DVD/CD section and right click the drive listed above and choose Remove or Uninstall. After it disappears, restart the machine and install the firmware update that was downloaded earlier.
Go into the Device Manager, and expand the Sound item, then double-click on line entry for your audio device, then click the Driver tab, then the Update Driver... button. Click Next, then Search for Suitable... and another Next (I think), then uncheck every thing but the Windows Update item, and proceed. Getting a driver update from the Windows Update site.
