Re: pioneer sx 217 home theater system

You have to put the red and white cords into the tv section of the receiver and the yellow cord into the dvd console.

How do I hook up a powered subwoofer to a pioneer sx-316?

Many subwoofers accept both line level (RCA jacks) and amplified inputs (+ and - speaker terminals). The Pioneer SX-316 does not offer line level output, only amplified outputs via the PURPLE + and - speaker terminals. This means that in order to use any subwoofer with an SX-316, the sub woofer will need to accept a + and - speaker wire connections for input Your manual speaker connections are on page 11 of the manual which can be found here:

Starting at the rear of the SX-316; run a speaker wire from the PURPLE + and - terminal (SUBWOOFER) to the + and - speaker input terminals on the subwoofer. See your subwoofer manual or experiment (at your own risk) with connecting the speaker wire from the SX-316 to the subwoofer's + and - LEFT only, RIGHT only or BOTH left and right speaker inputs. Do not connect wires from the SX-316 to the speaker OUTPUT terminals of your subwoofer.

Finally, adjust any variable low pass filter knob or setting on the subwoofer to the lowest frequency that your main speakers are capable of producing. If you're not sure what that value is, try setting the subwoofer to 100Hz and judge how it blends with the main speakers. If it seems a little too bass heavy and thick then reduce the setting to 80Hz. On the other hand, if the sound seems to be slightly thin and lacking weight, try increasing the setting to 120Hz. By careful listening and a bit of patience you will be able to get the sound to seem balanced and well blended.

Good luck!

I would like to set up my old Pioneer PL-514 turntable and my Pioneer SX-550 sterio reciever to listen to some old LPs. I seem to have lost the instructions and connection diagrams. Could you please...
The upper link is for the turntable, the lower is for the receiver. they want you to create an account tu dowlnload so just create an account with them. In my expierience turntables had hook upeads out the back(wires connected) that would hook to phono in on receiver and speakers would hook to receiver via speaker wires(may not be included) by pos and neg. The speaker wire usually either has a rib or a line or writing on on leg so you can identify which wire you would want to be pos or neg.

Trying to install my new home theatre

Are you sure the wire is not damaged somewhere? Are you sure that you are connecting the wire to the correct terminal on the receiver? Is the speaker OK?

To test all of this, try different combinations. With Right speaker working, disconnect the wire from speaker and connect it to the left speaker. If it doesn't work, then the left speaker is faulty.

Now disconnect the wire from receiver's right-front terminal and connect to left-front terminal. If it doesn't work, you are either connecting to wrong terminal or the terminal/receiver is faulty.

At last, try using the "left" wire to connect the rigth speaker to right terminal. If it doesn't work, the wire is faulty.

P.S. The +/- doesn't matter for testing, the sound should go either. It is just needed to have all speakers connected in the same polarity, because else the sound waves would eliminate themselves.
