Same issue Disc error on the read out and "Not Pal" message on the screen (It's a ntsc model and was working fine) Last movie we tried to play prior to this was "Shoot em up" ... DRM bug?

Don't watch a lot of t.v., put in a movie for the 1st time in about a year1/2. Dvd player read loading for about 25 seconds & made a sound so loud, I looked for the disc to be chewed up when the loading stopped. TV read disc error. Since the machine hadn't been used in such a long time, I assumed it was dusty and sprayed the disc area with canned air. I put a brand new movie that had never been played & it started playing right away. I took it out & put in the movie of choice & it started the loading process all over again. I worked on the dvd player for over an hour & got no where! Help! Marty-Teddy Bear Beads!

You may already have given up on this model and bought a new one, however, I have (sort of) a solution to this problem. I have a Toshiba SD-2800 that, over the years, has had limited use and today, when I tried to use it, I received constant "Disk Error" messages on all media, blank and pre-recorded. On other boards I saw a reference to shock-absorber feet on the drive mechanism that collapse over time, causing the drive to bind up. I put in a disk and, as quickly as possible, turned the unit upside down. The disk played normally. In order to eject the disk, I had to turn the unit right side up or else the platter would open and the disk would remain inside the unit.

Clumsy? Yes, however, it worked. I plan to open the case tomorrow and see if there is some way to prop up the drive mechanism to avoid the flip action. Doubt I can get new parts on a unit this old.

I purchased a toshiba portable dvd player and the disc is not spinning therefore reads no valid disc. I have put in a few discs still same reading? Any suggestions?

Hello
The Sled Motor is defective. this is the motor, whic spins the disc as it has been loaded properly. If the loader mechanism loads the disc properly into place and if the catch up magnet catches the disc in place, and still the dis do not spins, replace the sled motor. OK.

Audiovox D1998 portable DVD player will no long read disc.

This of course may not be the exact same thing, but mine did the same thing. Sounding like it was loading, but in fact pressing the open button it I could see the disc not spining at all (normally you would.) With the power off of course. I took all the bottom screws out (where ever the arrow points to a screw) including to the display. There is one ribbon cable easily disconnected. I lifted the mount the DVD sits on and reseated it. I put a disc in it, turned on the power and the disc turned. Great I thought. I reconnect the cable, put the screws back in - and its working.

Toshiba Satellite Pro C50 Laptop Optical DVD Drive Bezel Assembly K000888950 will work for you?
See eBay: 272402441049
$20 NEW ~ Including shipping from Denver.

The ONE thing that does bother me about this Auction is the word "BEZEL"... is it just the BEZEL without the actual drive? Please MESSAGE the seller and ask!

Final note: Be VERY careful about DVD Drives that are listed as "NEW" (other) ... MOST times that decodes to USED!

Dvd video player

Your DVD player is having a problem reading the disc. This is what is accounting for the pausing and the slow loading times...especially if it plays other movies without hitches. Even if the DVD is cleaned, some scratching on the disc will prevent it from being viewed properly. Blockbuster shoudl give you another disc to try of the same movie if you ask. Also, you can try getting a cleaner for your DVD player to remove dust and help it read discs better.
