I also have no suction and air blowing out from the filter by the light!?? Is there a clog I should be looking for? Neither the roller or the hose has ANY suction.. just air blowing out from the light area.. I also have no suction and air blowing out from the filter by the light!?? No suction on the floor or the end of the hose. Air comes from the filter by the light. No suction on the floor or the end of the hose. Air comes from the filter by the light.
I have the same problem of the vacuum not having any suction but the tool attachment works just fine. I have checked everything and found no clog and I even cleaned the filter and tried to replace it to see if it would develop suction again. Nothing so far. I have the same problem. There is hardly any suction, the attachment works fine and has suction. I've taken the entire vaccum cleaner a part and I've replaced the main filter (Cost me $30.00, the whole stinking vaccum cleaner only cost $100...geeze) and it still hardly picks up anything. I've done everything the manual has said and nothing works. Oh, by the way, mine blows air out of the front as well, the problem is, I can't remember if it always did this...is this normal. I'm going to replace the belt, which seems fine to me, but it's my last hope, otherwise I can see a new vaccum coming soon :o(I have the same problem. If the hose is partially clogged it could cause it to not have much suction but may still seem to be vacuuming properly because the brush roll is agitating the carpet. Depending on which model you have if there is no suction at the hose end there is likely none at the floor. If your model is a tandem air it could still be in the hose or in the valve where switch from floor to the hose. The valve can get plugged and it may still vacuum floors very well because the direct air motor is still blowing a lot of air to clean the floor but the clean air motor is not providing any suction. If you have a tandem air model it may be best to take it to your local Simplicity or Riccar dealer for repairs.
I'm sorry to hear you feel your DC40 has too much suction. This sounds unusual, and in order to help you resolve things we would need to take some further details about your machine, and the particular flooring type you're having difficulty with.
When you have your machine to hand, please call us directly so we can talk you through some simple troubleshooting checks to make sure everything is correct with your DC40. You can reach us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).
had same problem, tried for two days to figure it out. husband figured out that at the bottom of the 'cup' where the wand sits is a round protrusion in the middle--that is your answer, that is what controls the valve. he pushed down on it with a tool, we actually had a small rock in the bottom of the cup preventing the plunger from working. now we know for next time. obviously out of warranty and did not want to buy a new vacuum.
With the vacuum plugged in and running, make sure the brush
is spinning and that the brushes on it and long enough that they brush
against your hand (or in real terms your carpet). If it is not
spinning, replace the brush roll. This will also drastically increase
the cleaning ability of it since the new roll will spin faster and the
longer brushes will agitate your carpet better.
When using the Dyson or for that matter any other vacuum cleaner that has a motorized roller brush, you need to make sure that you AVOID open carpet edges since the suction end ( which has a roller with the brush) will grab open fiber ends. You should use an attachment or floor tool when cleaning open edges of your rug or carpet. Most vacuum cleaners come with a range of attachments that be used be used appropriately.
The neck in your power head is likely clogged. Disconnect from the wand and look inside. Also check the wand.Since you have suction on the bare floor the hose is likely not blocked.
can any one help, Our Dyson Animal vacuum has plenty of suction when it is upright and
the attachments are being used off the hose, but when the handle is
tipped back to begin cleaning carpets the beater head is getting no
suction. As the handle is being tipped back you can hear what sounds
like a flapper valve in the body of the vacuum opening and then all the
suction just goes away.
When you took off thew clear nozzle, you must have lost the black oblong gasket that sits at the junction at the top for the tank lip to sit on. Without it, you lose suction at that point.

No suction on the floor or the end of the hose. Air comes from the filter by the light.
