Question about Panasonic PT-53WX53 53" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Green Shadow The overall picture is distorted and there is a green shadow that sticks out about 3 inches to the left of the picture. When I try to do a manual convergence there are three lines at the top of the screen, one of these lines is a shadow of the actual line so I can't get them to line up.

Re: Green Shadow

Hello casey43_13 and nanac,
If the rest of the picture is great and only the edge are off, this might eliminate the convergence chip as been bad. This set is noted for bad convergence chip. The next step is that you need to do the convergence adjustment in service mode. This is a very complicated process. If you this you are up to the job of doing it yourself, please contact me by email. I will email you the procedures. By doing this yourself, you must understand that you could make the problem even worst.

Best regards

Convergence problem on rear projection CRT TVs.

On left half of the screen [ KP51WS510 ], a redish shadow showing

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Toshiba 56HM195 56 in HD DLP Loud Buzzing and color distortion

If the sound, sounds more like a Hum with some vibration chances are the Cooling fan located behind the lamp is going bad, about $20 to repair, if its a high pitch hum most likely the Color Wheel and if thats the case about $30.
Good luck, my fan just went bad now seeing green dots everywhere, so debating on just junking it out or fixing it, with winter coming on might just breakdown and buy LCD and say the heck with DLP from now on.
Good luck to you..

Green Shadow

The most common problem for this complaint is contaminated coolant for the picture tubes. If you look directly into the three picture tubes you will probably see a haze in the blue one. This is fairly common but requires a knowledgeable service man to take care of.
