I believe that what you mean is 'Waste Ink Tank Is Full' error on Canon MP520.
To fix this problem, first you need to reset waste ink counter of the printer then you should replace the ink absorber with new one.
In order to reset waster ink counter properly, you can read complete procedure how to reset waste ink counter of the printer below:
The following will reset the maintenance count after you install the maintenance kit, you can not reset the printer total page count. Press and hold down the [Select] and [Return] keys while powering on the
printer, hold these buttons until the display reads "Performing Self Test."
If the display readds "80 Schedules Maintenance", press the [Go] to continue
past this message and access the Configuration Menu. Press the menu button
until the display reads "Reset Maint Cnt" on the second line of the display
and press the [Select] button. The top line of the display should now read
"Reset Maint Cnt" and the second line will read "Reset" and press the
[Select] button. This will reset the counter. To exit out of the
"Configuration Mode" cycle the power.
Printer "read" ink level counter, not ink level actually. Refillable ink tank read as empty ink. Two methods to resolve this. Reset ink level counter using software. Or disable ink level counter reading.
Ink level counter (program) didn't read actually ink at ink tank. Brand new cartridge ink level counter 100% (full), and ink 100% (about 10 ml). After may printing, ink will dry out, and ink level counter reach zero (ink out). Printer will not allow print anymore, even have refilled, because ink level read "ink out". For canon type, you just to release ink level counter, and counter just stop, but printer will allow to print. Press stop/reset button for about 30 second.
Press the counter check button. What counters do you see. There can be up to 6 different ones I believe. What counter numbers do you see e.g. 101: Total 1
Counters to display can be set using Service Mode. Press Additional Functions > 2,8 > Additional Functions.
Copier > Option > User > COUNTER1,COUNTER2,COUNTER3,COUNTER4,COUNTER5,COUNTER6
Default's are COUNTER1: 101, COUNTER2: 103, COUNTER3: 201, COUNTER4: 203. COUNTER5, COUNTER6 none.
You could try entering those counters.
The counters could have been reset. It is apparently possible but certainly not advisable to do so without permission from Canon.
