Usb to serial adapter question

I'm hooking up a wacom tablet to my Mac and it has the serial port to it. I bought the serial adapter GUC232A and I put in the cd and loaded the drivers, but i'm unable to use my wacom tablet. When i plug in the usb is the light on the serial port supposed to be lit?

Try installing the Wacom USB drivers on the Mac. As I understand it, this adapter is designed to interact with devices that have their own serial drivers installed--such as a PDA, cell phone, camera, etc.--not necessarily with an input device, such as a drawing tablet, game controller, or pointing device. YMMV.

The GUC232A does not require driver installation on Mac, because it's a Plug-n-Play on Mac OS 10.4.X (Tiger) and Mac OS 10.5.X (Leopard).

WACOM Tablet is known to work with the GUC232A and the light on that device would only blink once there's a data transfer or communication happening between the computer and the WACOM. It will not lit up once you just connect it to the computer.

All you have to do is to configure the COM port on your computer and try using different COM port. Usually, you will get COM4 for the GUC232A, but Mac does not really support Serial configuration, but the GUC232A is tested to work with Mac computers.

Just try using different COM ports on Mac and one of the available port should work.

Wacom intuos3 led lights up for a second when plugged into any of my usb ports and then goes out. I've never had trouble with it before. I am using the usb ports on my Mac directly, no hub or keyboard...

try wiggling the cable at the tablet end.

I had the same problem, seems like the contacts from the cable to the tablet aren't that solid.

After a few wiggles I got contact again (pc made sound : a new usb device was detected), I just taped the cable so it wouldn't move again.

Older ArtZ II with ADB cable won't talk to my laptop

I'm thinking this is a Mac-only tablet. The ArtZ II for Windows came with an rs232 (old mouse) port at the end of the cable, in addition to a built-in spot where the power plug attaches. You didn't mention the power plug on yours, so the Mac version of the tablet must have the power routed in through the cable.

Short answer, the reason the light isn't coming on is because the tablet isn't receiving power. If you go get a cross-platform adapter card for plugging in Mac hardware on your HP, it *might* work.

Wacom serial power to usb connection

If your table has a USB connection and requires a powered USB port, then don't waste your money or time. If it's the other way around and the table is powered from another source, the converter will likely work.

Im using a serial to usb connector to connect my artZ II tablet to my laptop..

Sorry, I figured it out, it was because the serial to usb adapter i was using needed a driver, and then my computer recognizes it as an extra serial port. So, during installation it needed to be searched for automatically from my serial ports.

Serial to usb wacom tablet problem

I just got Vista and it killed my Intuos2 w/serial to usb also, but here's a half solution:
Download Wacom driver 4.78-6 http://www.wacom-europe.com/int/downloads/driver/driver.asp?lang=en. Make sure you remove any other Wacom drivers, tablet, and reboot. Install 4.78-6 driver and select serial port when the choice pops up. Plug in your tablet with the serial to usb adapter, wait a few seconds and click retry. Complete the install and reboot.
Your Wacom tracking should work now, but certain things might not work like pressure sensitivity and you'll get annoying error "reinstall driver" pop-ups.

I think you can aslo buy a PCI-serial card for your computer and skip the serial-usb adapter since Vista doesn't support the adapter for Wacom tablets.. but I'm not sure if there's a working Vista serial Wacom driver either.. or ever will be. The age of XP and Legacy support is at an end my friends.

Can not install ArtZ tablet

Check the port it is connected to. Wacom seems to only recognize serial ports 1-8. I use a USB to Serial adapter and had to reassign it to a lower port number from 12. Go into Device Manager, select the connected device, right click to select Properties, the the Port Setting tab, Advanced button, COM port number. Ok you way back out. uninstall the Wacom software, then reinstall it, following the reboot prompts. It loads a service that tends to hang if the device is not connected when it starts. I had started disabling the tablet and the service just so I can avoid a reboot when I change ports.
