Evinrude 9.9 starts but when i turn it off it wont restart
When i first start the motor, it always starts 1st pull. i go fishing for a little while and it wont restart. The only way i can get it to start is if i pull the string like 10 times in a row without stopping or wait a day or two. anyone have any ideas on whats wrong?

With what you say,I had a very similar problem.This may not be the same as yours but what I did was a new set of sparkplugs.It worked.For the price,for the ease of doing it,it was a cheap fix.This may not be a 100% fix for yours but if it does help you,great.My motor used to go through sparkplugs a lot.It was never solved.Hope this helps

Do you have the serial number of the motor? Reason I ask is twofold. Evinrude started using this model number layout as of 1980. Having said this, something is not making sense with the location of the "N" in your model number. Those last two letters as of 1980 are the year. Here is the chart. Letter on top with corresponding year below it.
I N T R O D U C E S
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0
You have E8RLNR which breaks down as:
R= Rope start tiller steering
L= 20" shaft
N= 2nd year
R= 4th year
I would expect to see the N in the last spot:
Serial number is another way to identify the year.
This may hep point you in the right direction. Hope it helps.
the proper mix is 50 to 1 or 16 oz to every 6 gallons,in my little boat I put 4 quarts in the 48 gal tank and its been running for 22 years,your running way to rich and your plug is probaly fouled,take it out clean it up/dump your fuel and mix it right,thats a great motor you got,I hunted with it for years,oh yeah when you get started run it till all the smoke is gone or you will have carb problems ,if you dont have them all ready,a little carb cleaner wont hurt but get it running first,or all that trash will foul you out,have a great trip bartriley1
