Question about RCA G36705 36" TV

1 Answer

Intermittent loss of sound

Sometimes we go days with no problems. then for no apparant reason there is heavily muffled pop and the sound is gone. Picture and channel select are great. The only fix is to remove complete power from the TV, wait about 5 minutes, plug set back in, and turn back on. Sound may last for the many days or it could drop out again after a few minutes. If it drops out, I have to leave it unplugged longer.

Re: intermittent loss of sound

Hpesoj the problem comes from the satellite in the sky, too many bits of data for your chassis, only fix involves adding a capacitor to the microprocessor, note that if the modification is done your closed captioning will no longer work, but it`s the only thing that will stop it other than un-plugging the ac cord waiting for a short time and then re-apply the cord, which you have already found out, any local tv tech should be aware of this "so called fix" give them a call, good luck, BMW Rider

Loud pop from surge protector that results in intermittent sound on Samsung 46" tv

I hope the surge protector is separate from your TV. It has Varistors in it that are supposed to pass overvoltage surges (it can happen without the power going out) then recover to normal. But sometimes they overheat, then they can become a fire hazard. Or the contacts in the sockets can get charred and flakey. Anyway sounds like it is fried, the only easy solution is replace it. A careful tinkerer with a good scrounge box could fix it, if you know anybody like that.

My RCA tv has been working fine for years. A few days ago it began to have intermittent popping sounds. Picture is clear and sound is good. I recently dusted the back of my set and I'm sure some dust must...

hi there,
if u know how to work with your set u can:
1. open the back cover case of your tv and try to find a foreign objects inside and clean it up with your vacuum cleaner.
2. popping sounds sometimes due to lossen parts, bad socket contacts, too much dust and dirts ,corrosions .and when cleaning you unplug first your TV set to avoid electric shock. i hope this will help a little. Thank You.

A 42 or 46'' Samsung picture shuts off but still has sound

Remove all video inputs including hdmi if problem goes away. Determine what input is suspect and call smasung for a firmware upgrade. HDMI casued intermittant behavior with this series, but was sometimes seen on component video.

Philips 28pw6515/05

Hello dan5260,

Your audio processor might be going bad or at least one of the capacitors might had malfunctioned.
We are actually not talking about much expense in fixing this problem. At my shop here how the pricing would go:

Parts: $20.00-$30.00
Labor: $60.00 per hour (1 hour limit) Total $120.00
Starter Fee: $30.00

So total will be about $170.00 - $180.00

This is just an estimate based on my shop, your local shop might charge more or less.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Popping and fading of sound

The "popping" sound could be electricity jumping from one place to another. An internal SHORT in a transistor, an internal OPEN in a resistor.Intermittent [sometimes it does, sometimes it dose not] arcing electronic parts.
Dust [metal filings, very fine hair that burns like a fuse] & dirt [anything metal], arcing (shorted) capacitors.Bad connections on ANY ground connector.
Possible:: your surround sound MASKED the popping sounds by acting like a FILTER.Which lets me to think that your problem is in the audio section.

27" GE TV with loud Popping sound

Could be a possible flyback. yes.. for a 27inch i would not think it would be worth it... 27 inch tvs are realativly cheap.. the lowest price to repair would be about 200 if you got lucky.

Hum, Rumble,Pop...Signal Loss

Yup ya off to the "Shop" me thinks this type of fault is a nightmare to fix, generally.. any intermittent one but in saying this any serviceman worth his/her salt should be able to fix it in a hour or two.. I like you would suspect a "Dry Joint" or bad connection.. Make sure you get a firm "Quote" B4 proceeding.. good Luck

Intermittent reception problem

I think you have a loose connection inside the tuner. Sometimes this can be repaired by removing the tuner and soldering the connections. Sometimes the tuner will have to be replaced. The cable connector which sticks out the back of your set could be broken loose inside the tuner. This type of problem is very common. You never know when it's going to happen. IT will change with temperature. You need to have a technician check it for you. Stargazer
