Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

Why is it that the A/C compressor clutch does not activate, It kicks on only after I accelerate the Motor? It's supposed to be pre set from fac. and the books say that it's non adjustable. but that's what it does. And i know that it's not the tightness of the belt.

Ac clutch won't engage on a 1999 dodge grand caravan automatic

Tap the clutch with a hammer lightly while a/c is on full blast. If it still doesnt engage its time for a new one. Future reference in the winter keep your heat on defrost some of the time, it activates your clutch in the A/C compressor so the bearings wont seize when you go to turn it on, on a hot day.

Chevy Aveo grinding noise from accelerator when A/C is on

It will be the ac compressor clutch that slipping when after it has been activated/engaged. This happens when the engine is winding up the compressor clutch is not engaging strong enough and start slipping. However as the engine rpm stabilize on the ac compressor has caught up (same rpm) no slipping occur and no noise. Was the clutch mechanism replaced with the compressor replacement? (however it need to be checked/repaired).

When I remove the a/c relay and jumper the connection my a/c compressor clutch kicks in. When I removed this jumper the compressor will not engage. Is there a sensor or a switch located that controls this....

May have a bad low pressure/cycling switch. Its a two wire switch and normally found on the dryer/accumulator. You can unplug that wire and jumper it. If the clutch kicks on then either the system is too low on refrigerant to activate the switch or the switch is bad.
That switch can be replaced without loss of refrigerant because there is (or supposed to be) a shrader valve in the dryer.

I have a 2002 PT cruiser. When I tried the air conditioner it doesn't get cold. I tried to add refrigerent and it didn't work. What different things could it be?

Well, it could be a lot of things. Bad compressor, bad clutch on the compressor, overcharged system causing the Safety to activate, a leak in the system, a bad coil or dryer or something as simple as a blown fuse for the compressor. Put your system in full defroster and set the temp select to max cold. if the compressor kicks in and you get cold air at that front window then the problem could be the control itself. If the compressor doesn't activate then it is most likely the compressor. or an overcharged system.

The ac compressor on my nissan pathfinder 1988 don't kick off. Does it work straight on?

It's not supposed to. Pull the fuse for the compressor clutch to see if it is still running the compressor. If it does, that means the clutch bearing has seized. Not sure if the bearing is replaceable or the whole compressor has to be replaced. Hope this helps!

I have an Ingersoll Rand T30 10 HP compressor that runs OK and will bulid up 150 psi without any problems. But when the pressure drops enough to kick the pressure switch, the motor won't start. just tries...

When the compressor comes up to pressure and kicks off, you should normally hear a gasp of air escaping. That gasp is the release of pressure from the compressor itself - not the tank, and it is supposed to get released so that the compressor can restart without being preloaded with compressed air. My guess is that the gasp is not happening. It is probably some debris or a gummy mechanism. The mechanism is supposed to be triggered by the same mechanism that shuts off the motor.

my gess is its the motor again,, you may be trying to run it using low volts to feed the motor witch over loads the capasitor starter this would keep the motor in its start up windings witch would get very hot very fast as there only there to kick start the motor over once running the main windings take over i think i would take this compresor back and try to change it for a new compresor as its clearly not up for the job

What year is the vehicle ? The A/C button on the control panel is a direct input to the PCM /ECM - engine computer . The PCM/ECM energizes the compressor clutch relay to engage the compressor .

So I just had this exact problem about an hour ago. I wondered about the starter, crankshaft, etc. but discarded them for the simplest explanation: battery.
I'm sure you've all noticed how absurdly easy it is to mistakenly miss the steering lock and put the parking lights on. Odds are you may have done this without realizing (I must've even if I don't remember). Jumper cables are the answer.
If you've never jumped a bike, here's the skinny: 1) Make sure the car you're jumping from is, and remains, off. 2) Connect the cables as normal; black to black, red to red. 3) Let the bike sit for a minute then start her up. 4) If you can, take her for a ride to get the charge back up.
If this doesn't work, then you may very well have more serious issues. Hope this helps, ride safe!
