We have tried connecting to both Zone A and Zone B and neither has worked correctly with the existing wiring by the home-builder.

If we use our own cables (16g), for testing, the speakers work fine.

We have tried with A, B, and AB and nothing seems to work.

The house was pre-wired for surround sound in the family room, 2 outdoor speakers, and 2 speakers in the dining room. We have tried with all possible connections and nothing seems to produce sound with the existing wiring. We are only able to get sound with wires that we bought for testing.

Also, we are not trying to connect the surround sound as we have an independant Bose 321GS.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

More than likely you connected it to the Speaker B terminals in the rear of your receiver. Look for a button or switch on the front and change to either Speaker B for outside only or A&B for indoors and outdoors.

What's a rock speaker? All you will hear with one speaker on the Rear Right output is the Rear Right channel which is typically for effects and ambience. You DO have a manual, right?

Individual speakers commonly have different responses given the same amplifier input. Where you physically place a speaker once it's electrically connected is up to you. Speakers placed outdoors might not have the sound-re-enforcement of nearby or adjacent walls as indoor speakers do so they will sound weaker.

If your satellite box is connected using a digital cable to the 601 receiver you won't get any sound through zone 2.Zone 2 can process only analogue sound ( inputs ).

You have two speaker switch overs- A & B. if either one is not connected you can use this for the external speakerr connecting the right and left identically using good quality speaker wires. howeverr do not use more the 10 meters( recommended 5 meters). otherwise you will need to ahve an external switch( 2pole two way) for the surround speakers to switch over in place of the swimming pool, connected in the same polarity and phase.(Positve and negative). Ok

How do I connect my outside speakers to play?

The onkyo should still have a speaker A/B selector in the menu.
Check on the back panel for speaker A/B.
If it has or you decide to use Zone 2 you will need to set the sound programme to "stereo" so the rears and centre do not work.
You can still use a digital source.
You should be able to display the amp's menu on the screen.
Hook up "monitor out" (Yellow) via RCA connector to one of the "A/V inputs" (yellow) on the tv, this will show you a display of the menu and will make it eaiser to navigate.

No zone 2 sound coming from yamaha amp rx-v861

Had same problem. A and B speakers are basically connected together, and there is no way to get the same volume out of each speaker. This is not a multi-source receiver like Onkyo. Zone 2 needs to go to a seperate amplifier and select teh correct source on the fornt,

How to run outdoor speakers from my in house receiver

If you have a button for A and/or B speakers on the front of your unit, then use the A (or B) speaker connections for the inside speakers and B (or A) speaker connections for the outside speakers. Then of course you just select either A or B depending on where you want the sound to come out. If you select A and B then it will come out at both locations. If you don't have A/B speaker selection available on the unit, then you will need a speaker select switch (from Radio Shack) or else wire up a four pole double throw toggle switch to do the job.
