on start up it searched and found both analog and digital channels, then it deleted all the digital channels and can't find them anymore. I think they want me to buy another gadget for it.

Try this!

The manual states the TV is designed to search for channels.

turn the power on
then hit menu
(if it doesn't start searching for channels)
then hit channel up -let it run a complete channel search
hit menu again
(if it doesn't start searching for channels)
hit channel up- let it run a second channel search
hit menu again after it finishes it's 2nd search cycle
if it doesn't go to a channel, hit the input button.

it worked for me!
hope it helps

Dx-L321-10A: M-B315AA on direct tv. Can't get HD. Says restricted. Tried comp. No good, haven't used HDMI. Do I need Digital? Thanks for your time.

These are directly from your users manual:

  • Built-in HDTV tuner: Add HD-capable antenna to receive over-the-air high-definition broadcasts, where available. Optional set-top box required for high-definition cable or satellite programming

  • 2 HDMI inputs: Provide an uncompressed all-digital audio/video link for the highest quality connection and support copy-protected HD broadcast content.
  • you need to do one of 2 things to get HDTV on your device. Either attach an HD- capable antenna or attach an HDMI cable from your satellite tv providers box. Good luck.

Why cant I change channels when recrding 2 progs?

Hello Anonymous,
You did not specify if you are using a DVR capable cable/satellite box, which I what I presume is the case. That DVR has two tuners in it - each tuner allowing you to watch and/or record two programs at one time and in any combination. If both of those tuners are used for recording then you cannot watch another "live" stream as there no available tuners to tune and display (or stream to the DVR hard drive for recording). You can only switch between the two recording programs.
As a side note, if your TV has a built-in tuner, you can split the cable and have one going to the DVR and the second run going to the TV set. You can then use the TV's built in tuner and watch what anything it can get. It won't get scrambled digital cable but will get analog and Clear QAM channels.

Not auto scan channels

Make sure you have the tuner type set to cable and not air. Also try plugging a different TV into the same cable and see if that works. If not the issue is the cable, if it does the TV may not with your cable. Try and contact your cable provider.

Do an autoscan if you can. If it doesn't have a built in tuner, you'll need to buy a digital tuner.

GV42L vizio tuner

Your vizio has an internal digital tuner. When you are on air, make sure that it is set up for digital. It might say DTV. Some sets have an analog only and digital only program option in the user menu, or as a seperate input. When in doubt, check your user manual.

Make sure you have a good connection from antenna to TV. Check antenna and cable and cable connection to TV. Select DIGITAL button on TV remote when wanting HD channels. Remember HD channels are always digital. Also, any given TV station may not be broadcasting in HD at a given time. They can broadcast in digital but in standard definition sometimes. Your TV has a built-in DVB-T tuner. Try executing a channel scan to pick up all available channels. On-screen menus go to Digital Setup, then Digital Tuning, you can auto-tune or manual tune channels. The TV should take a few min. to scan thru available channels and store the channels its finds. Check with anyone in your area to see if they get HD channels (it is possible to be outside of the range of some TV stations) Your TV is a 2006 model and should still be compatible with local digital TV broadcasts but keep in mind digital signals could change in the near future (DVB-T2) and you may need a tuner/converter box to make the TV compatible.

I have a Pioneer DVR5100H which was set up to record Analogue programs - can I change the set up to accept digital programs. I have tried auto setup but it doesn't pick up any programs?

Hi,

You can't record digital programmes with this recorder unless it is connected to a digital tuner, e.g. a Freeview box or Sky digibox. This recorder has a built in analogue tuner which allows it to record analogue transmissions. Recorders which can record digital transmissions have a built-in digital tuner and usually have a DVB logo (actually looks more like DV3) on the front.

If you want to record digital programmes using this recorder, you need to connect it to a Freeview or Sky digibox, preferably with a scart cable. It is not sufficient to connect it to a TV with a digital tuner or built in Freeview as the player does NOT record directly from the TV, it must be connected directly to the transmission source. A basic stand-alone digital tuner (Freeview box) can be bought for as little as £10-15.

BElectric

Is mhy samsung not hdtv?

You must have a digital tuner built in to the tv if you want to scan for Freeview digital channels. If you have digital cable or satellite the decoder box will unscramble the signal and send it to the tv through a scart connection or HDMI cable. Not all tv's have a digital tuner built in but if it is HDTV it can show an increased resolution image if the output from the cable box or dvd player is high definition.

Can't tape tv program on VCR while watching another show on digital cable.

If you set it up right per Comcast instructions:

Your VCR will record a show off of its built in tuner while you are watching another show from the cable box.

Make sure that the AB switch is set into the correct position and that you are only recording a show that that isn't digital. I believe you can only record shows up to channel 150 off the VCR tuner. Anything higher than that won't work.

If your Comcast Cable Tuner has two AV outputs in the back of it, you can skip the AB switch altogether and plug the one of the cable tuner output lines into the back of the VCR input lines. That way it can record that show you are watching on the cable tuner at that same time.
