Can you verify if other devices can have access to the internet in your home? If you can access wifi connection elsewhere, then most likely your wireless router is not configured. You didn't specify if it ever has been. Router needs to receive the internet signal from outside the house and make it available through radio. Depending on the make and model of your router, you would need a hard-wire connection between your PC and the router. Then you need to configure it, assign a wifi name, security type and password for it. Write it down on a sticky label and stick it under the router because eventually this info gets forgotten.
You need to enable wifi on your Ipod. Say you have a lynksys router at your house. Provided your router is working properly, you go to the settings menu on your ipod then your wireless routers name should automatically show up, then you tap connect and you should have internet access on your ipod.
Yes you need wireless router to use wifi in ipod touch or on laptop. Connect
your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with
following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or
http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access
it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your
router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type
user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you
can see configuration page of router. If you are still not able to
access router with above ip then you need to RESET it for that press
RESET button for 10 seconds it is in back side of router then all
settings defaults..Then you can access it with above method.
Then click on wireless and enable it.
. Then
click on wireless->wireless security->WEP security there is code
password note down it or enter new password then save setting s and
restart router. then you can connect wireless with new password. Let me
know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.
To connect to the internet using wifi on the iPod touch, just follow the following steps: Firstly, you should be in a wifi zone(an area where you can access wifi) or if you want to use it at your house with your residential internet connection, just get yourself a wifi router(shouldn’t cost more than $50-60) and configure it with your residential internet
Once you are in a wifi zone, on your iPod touch, go to: Settings > Wifi > Turn your wifi ON > Select a wifi network > Key in the WEP(only if asked for) > Connect Once you’re done with this, you should get the IP settings and be able to surf the internet with no problem. Note: At times when you’re too far away from the wireless router or a big thick brick wall is separating you and the wifi router, your iPod might show the network as available and you would also be able to connect to it, but surfing the internet using it would become a problem. If this happens to you, don’t worry, just move closer to the wifi router and it shouldn’t pose any other problems. Happy Surfing!

Yes, you definitely need to be in range of a Wireless router. I wish Wi-Fi was like phone service where you can get it anywhere you go, but that's not the case.
Do you have a modem?Did you subscribe with an internet service provider? If no then you need to subscribe to an ISP because the router alone will not give you internet. If yes, you have an ISP, then tryTry to isolate the problem by using a wireless laptop, if you can connect wirelessly on your laptop and go online then there is a setting to be check on your IPOD,. If you are not online with the laptop you have to make sure the router is configured correctly or check if you can go online directly to the modem.
