Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC14 doesn't have a conventional replaceable belt. Instead it has a clutch mechanism which allows you to turn the brush bar on to clean carpet, and off to protect hard floors and delicate rugs. It's important to note that the brush bar will never rotate when the vacuum is standing upright, or if you have the brush control set to the Hard floor position.

If you're confident that the brush bar isn't rotating with the brush control control set correctly, and the vacuum reclined into the normal vacuuming position, I'd encourage you to get in touch correctly. Our experts will be happy to take you through some simple troubleshooting checks - and if a repair or replacement part is needed, they'll be able to provide further details about this.

When you have your DC14 easily to hand, please give us a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Hi!, It's Jim with Crucial Vacuum.

It's more than likely that your belt is in need of replacing. Even though it appears attached it may be stretched out and lacking in tension. This would cause the brush roll itself to lack in rotation and suction. On average and depending on usage you will want to replace your vacuums belt once every 3 months.

Remove your vacuums cover, this can usually be done with a screwdriver or coin, and tends to be two to three screws depending on your model. Now you can get a better look at both your brush roll and belt.

If you're looking for replacement parts for your Dyson we carry a large variety of them. Check us out at Crucial Vacuum we offer free shipping and an exclusive 10% coupon for Fixya.com readers, use code: FIXYA10

The belt has broken, they can be tricky to change, first remove beater bar cover, remove broken belt, obtain replacement not expensive. slide the belt over the motor spindle located in the slot bit fiddly to do, when done place a screw driver through the belt as it will be under a fair bit of tension then slide the beater bar/brush through the belt loop, then reassemble revers of strip down.

Dyson DC25 brush won't spin when touching the floor. If I lift it off the floor it spins, once it touches the floor it stops. Any idea what the problem is?

I can think of three things that could be wrong.

The easiest one is that the brush has hair and fluff wrapped around its bearing. This happened to me and was causing a burning rubber smell. Turn it over and remove the base plate. Lift the belt by putting a piece of cord under it and slide the brush out. Remove one end of the brush and slide the spindle out. Clean all the hair out and reassemble.

The internal drive belt is worn, or the nylon bush that it runs on.

The clutch is worn out.

The last two are not as easy to fix as the main drive belt is enclosed in the centre of the clutch. There are videos though that show you the process. Have a read and a watch, but try my first tip first.

The brush will only spin when the machine is reclined. Not when the machine is stood upright.
If the brush doesn't turn when the machine is reclined, and the brush control set to "auto", you have a brush bar and/or belt problem.

Something is causing the brush to slow down, either it is full of hair or debris or the brush itself is wearing out and may need changed. The noise you are hearing is the motor protector keeping it from burning up becuse there is some type of drag on the brush. If there is no issues with the brush then I would suspect the clutch assembly is worn and needs replaced. Here is a diagram for you to look at and go from there.

My Dyson started making a loud noise when in "carpet" mode. After reading a ton of forums I thought it was the clutch assembly. Got a new one on eBay for a great price. Somewhat hard to replace, but thanks to this YouTube video, I was able to get it in: http://www.ezvacuum.com/dyson-dc07dc14-clutch-assembly-90025204-genuine-p-1636.html

HOWEVER this did not resolve the issue. I realized the beater bar was not spinning or was slipping. I thought I cleaned it all out but realized you need to take the beater bar out and pop the end cap and clean out the INSIDE of the beater bar (tons of lint and cat hair). I additionally sprayed WD40 in there.

It spins great now and in the end I think that's all I had to do was clean out the cat hair build up inside the beater bar. But now I have a new clutch & belts too. Hopefully won't have issues anytime soon.

Congratulations on owning a great vacuum cleaner, it's just like mine! Here's what I do: Grab the drive belt and pull while you wiggle the brush bar into it. You have to get a little bit physical with it. The ends of the brush bar will nestle into their keeper pockets nicely when you've got it right. Good luck!

On a Dyson this engages the brush bar. Two possible faults: Debris (hair etc) caught in brush bar - cut out with knife. Or - damaged drive belt - pieces of belt striking casing. Last, but unlikely cause, debris in bearings of brush bar - replace brush bar.

Dyson vacuum cleaner-brush bar is frozen

Hi If your Dyson has a brush protection design - i.e. roller bar on the top of the hood on the left hand side then the DYson can't be repaired by you- serviceman or professional care can replace it.
However if the Dyson doesn't have the roller bar on top of the hood, flip the machine over so that the beater brush is facing upwards, locate three/four screw heads that can be undone with a coin and remove the sole plate assembly. This should give you a clean view of the brush bar, drive belt and dirt channel. Ensure everything is clean espcially if the brush bar has lots of hair or threads tightly corded around. Then locate the drive belt and check to see if it has snapped. Grasp the beater bar gently upwards and the belt and brush can then be removed. Fit a new belt on carefully and check the tension as it will be tight.

My dyson dc14 not sucking only from the hose

Hi- I have the same problem: suction fine, but the brushbar was not spinning. I went 1st to the Dyson site and went thru their troubleshooting guide and I'd done all those things, so I called Dyson (1-866-MY DYSON in the USA) and they walked me thru a very simple solution.

What worked was to "rest" the bare floor/carpet adjustment, and it's very easy! You do this by clicking the carpet to bare floor adjustment back and forth at least 5 times. Make sure when you end it's on carpet. Then tilt it back all the way from the upright position so it's flat on the floor and turn it onto it's left side. The carpet indicator should be below the word carpet. THAT WAS IT! As soon as I turned it on again, the brush bar is spinning great! I wish I could tell you right now how well it picks up, but unfortunately I took out the filter and rinsed it, so I have to wait until tomorrow to **** anything up. However, I'm sure it will work now that the brush bar is moving. Like I said, the suction was fine.

Just as an FYI--If you call, they will have you try other things to rule out other problems 1st. I had already done all the things suggested in their troubleshooting guide on their site and the only additional thing they asked me to try was to turn it on and tilt it back as though you are going to vacuum and make sure the suction from the top tube had stopped, as it normally does, and mine did.

    Hope this helps!

    Liz

Dyson DC14 Animal Vacuum - terrible loud noise

What I found was that it is the roller brush. If you are willing to get a little dirty and do it yourself, there is the roller brush that most likely needs to be cleaned. After a little tinkering of my own, the roller brush can be slipped out or just shift it out of place to clean it. There are two ends to the roller brush and the brush itself. Of you twist the two ends until the come apart you would probably find a lot of hair and other long strand items wrapped around the rod that goes through the brush. Once you clean that out it should work like new. If that does not work then it is probably the clutch which is what the belt around the roller brush is connected to. Hope this helps, it is a simple solution.
