Printer won't do anything without black ink cartridge installed
I got the wrong size black ink cartridge and it kept telling me to check the right cartridge. So I finally took it out and checked the type of cartridge needed for black and it is the wrong one, so I just took it out and I don't even want to do any printing right now, just scanning. So I took it out and now just the colour cartridge is left in. well it won't let me do anything, it just says to insert a black cartridge. I don't see why I have to have one in the machine to do other things, it should let me use it however I want, with or without both cartridges, right? Please help, I paid quite a bit for this, and I am going to get the ink, but won't have money until next week and I need the scanning done before then.

The procedure is to go to your local supplier and purchase genuine HP cartridges. Honestly, people think that ink is ink....and it's not! A huge amount of research and development goes into the inks, and molecule size is actually important. Not only that, HP formulates it's premium papers to react specifically with their inks to provide quicker dry time and longer lasting color. Getting an ink with too small a molecule will lead to leaking and bleeding, and too large a molecule will lead to head clogging and smearing. Not to mention, it voids your warranty. If you buy genuine cartridges, and have a print quality issue, even if the printer is out of warranty, you can still call HP for free troubleshooting as it will be treated as "Accessory in warranty". Also, I have seen cases where when the molecule size is wrong, the cartridge just empties itself into the printer, ruining it, and also ruining the furniture the printer happens to be on at the time. The pennies you save on refilling the cartridge won't buy you a new printer, tablecloth and table and it certainly won't un-poison your cat or dog!
Dont go to Cartridge World :(. This problem is sometimes caused when a cartridge has been re-filled and re-set too many times, The chip corrupts and causes some very weird messages.
Simply try a New Set of Cartridges (Not reconditioned or Refilled). GnL Products in NSW have new compatible cartridges for about $10 each. firstname.lastname@example.org
The Lexmark machines are designed to kick out anything it suspects may be refilled. If your old cartridge has bad print nozzles this may be tripping the error. Printers are typically for sensitive with their color cartridges anyway because the manufacturers make more money on the color ones. You can try looking around the settings on the machine and in the printer preferences to see if you can tell it to ignore the ink levels and see if you can continue to print.
My HP6210 printer had the same problem. The carriage would make a lot of noise going back and forth and I got the carriage jam error message. Using a flashlight, I found an incredible amount of ink (mainly black ink) underneath the mechaism which clears the ink off the print cartridges. I throughly cleaned the internal components and it works again.
you need to print only in black if that is all the ink you have, and also you need to remove the color cartridge as it still registers in the printer as able to be used, although it is empty or near so. Did you remove the tape over the print head fron the new ink cartridge? Do a print head alignment, or use the toolbox icon to tell the printer that you just replaced the cartridge. Some HP models chip the ink cartridges so even a refill wont register as a full tank and the printer wont print. chip needs to be reset (difficult) or just replaced with a new cartridge.
Well, here is the proper way of fixing or troubleshooting that paper jam error in your printer
Open the printer access door and remove both of the ink cartridge, then remove also the printhead, after that close the printer access door, without those parts. Then it will show a message in the printer screen, "Printhead is missing or has come loose" or "Printhead Not Detected" Install the printhead, just the printhead without the ink cartridges. After that close the printer access door. Then it will show you a message"Ink cartridges is not installed, install ink cartridges". then open again the printer access door, then install the black ink cartridge without the color ink cartridge. then close the printer access door, then message must be " Color ink cartridge is not installed, install color ink cartridge" then install the color ink cartridge." the message must be,"New printhead is detected calibration require, load paper and press start"
Thats the way of overiding the paper jam error message of your kodak all in one printer hope this will help you guys
