Hello,
If your computer runs correctly on AC power (without the battery), the power adapter is fine. So the problem may rest with your battery. If you have been using the same battery for 3-4 years, I suspect that it may not be holding the charge (end of life)
Try charging you battery and run the computer on battery alone and see how long it lasts.

Hope it helps

An afterthought: You should not keep battery in compartment unless you are ALSO charging it. If it is fully charged remove it and store in a safe place.

Vaio replacement battery "plugged in. not charging"

For this kind of issue, you may try the following troubleshooting steps for confirmation:
1. Take the battery out of the laptop & try to turn on the laptop using power adapter only. If the computer turns on, then the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.
2. Make sure your vaio vgn-cr510e power adapter is not defective. Test the output voltage of the power adapter using a voltmeter. Compare the voltmeter reading to the nominal value written on the adapter or the laptop.
3. Make sure the DC jack is not loose or broken. A loose DC jack will need to be re-soldered. A broken one will need to be replaced.
4. If you have another processor which is compatible with your laptop's model, try swapping processors & test to see if the laptop will work.
5. The power button could be bad
6. The motherboard could be defective & needs to be replaced.

Sony pcg-81114L power supply not detected

If thelaptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out.Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR Thebattery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the batterydrops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to anunacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

Our dell inspirion 1525 keeps switching itself off when it is plugged into the mains electric. Also the battery does not hold it's charge. What could be the cause ? Thanks

Hi,
Without looking at it I'd guess at it being the DC power jack (where you plug in the power adaptor). These are prone to wear and tear and are easily damaged. When your laptop is plugged in and is turned on, please 'wiggle' the power jack and see if your machine powers down and/or the charging light comes on. If any of the above happens, then it's your DC jack. These can be replaced.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525, I purchased a new battery and a new charger and I still getting the message that it's plugged in but not charging. What could be the problem?

Your problem is that the power jack in your actual laptop is loose. it may not seem like it is but one of the 3 connections (positive, negitive, data) that hold the jack to the board broke. In this case its the data connection that tells the laptop what kind of adapter is plugged in, and dell laptops wont charge without knowing that. Solution- 1.Pay someone to replace the power jack 2. If you can solder, by a new jack (around $5) and disassemble the laptop and replace it yourself.

Charging problem in sony vaio VGN-N220E

sounds more like your dc jack(where you insert your plug into the laptop ) is going bad. If you have a multimeter the first thing to test would be your charger to make sure it isnt faulty. If the charger is fine then it is most certainly the dc jack. Replacing the dc jack is best to be left to someone who specializes in that kind of repair but if you know how to solder it may be something that you can do yourself. click here for more info on dc jacks.

If the adapter is working, the problem could be the jack on the back of the notebook. The nice thing is most of the Vaio notebooks the jack is replaceable without having to solder the jack to the board. I would call SONY regarding the jack for a mode number and a picture. it's easily replaceable but requires the disassembly of the notebook.

Hi Sony battery,
did you mean to say that you battery only remain at 50% and never exceed this amont ??
Normally all the notebook if you keep charging it should come up to 100%, but only a few case that will face the problem
1.problem with battery itself.
2.problem with ac adapter (I face very much problem here not continues power suplly)
3.problem with motherboard the module that deal with charging battery.
Goodluck,takecare.
