Fuel problem? I have a craftsman rider with a 21.5 Briggs INTEK engine model#407777 that seems to be starving for fuel after I run it for a while. I see a round black plastic thing in the gas line that is stamped Mukini is this a fuel pump? I have already cleaned the tank and replaced the gas line. Muffler bearings seemed fine to. HA HA, any Ideas would be helpfull. Thanks Mike

Mukini does make inline fuel pumps. If there is a wire going to it then it is more than likely a fuel pump. I would replace the fuel filter, and air filter. I would also purchase a can of Seafoam cleaner at most auto parts stores. Pour in the correct amount in the fuel tank, as listed in the directions on the can. I have seen this work wonders on small engines with fuel problems.

What is the compression lbs for a 18 hp brigg/stratton intek engine

Not sure where to get compression pounds for this, but let me refer you to the Briggs website for detailed product specs and power curves.
Intek can be twin or single sylinder.

For Twin....
http://www.briggsandstratton.com/us/en/engines/rider-mower-engines/intek-series-v-twin

For single....the are in 1/2 HP ratings but the link is below....
http://www.briggsandstratton.com/us/en/engines/rider-mower-engines/intek-with-xrd-single-cylinder

If further detail is required, I will need the model type and trim found on the valve cover.

Briggs& Stratton 18hp OHV Intek engine will run only under a load.

Your PTO safety switch is opening intermittently. Would help if you would always add your model # such as 917.100000 that way I could look up on Sears site and tell you approx. Location of switch.

24 hp briggs intek starving for fuel

Always check for jet. 90 percent of the time it is clogged. Remove the bowl and float and it is the center screw.

Briggs and Stratton 20 hp intek runs great idles great but after running for 15 min. it acts like is running out of fuel and dies. it starts back up if you wait a few min.fuel filter new , plugs new air...

Had the same problem with an almost new Craftsman w/ Intek 20.0 HP. Check all the "usual suspects" and had to have a tech come out. He had me start it. It ran for a few minutes and stopped (per usual). He immediately went to the Anti-Backfire solenoid. It is an electrically operated "plunger-style" fuel line blocker. They are famous for going bad. The part is about $65 and its sole purpose is to starve the engine of its fuel supply at shutdown so it won't backfire. If it is disabled, the user must throttle the engine down for 10 seconds or so before turning the key off in order to avoid backfires. Gee... let's see, 10 seconds of my time each time I use the mower vs $65 part ... No contest! Remove the solenoid, take a pair of electrician side cutters and snip off the tip of the plunger and reinstall it. Problem solved ! ! !

21hp intek v-twin runs only with choke on full

You are not getting enough fuel.... by choking it you are enriching the mixture with less air , more fuel. Some where in the fuel system or carbureator something is still plugged.Or the mixture screw is too far in.

Engine runs erratic until you engage the blade. it is a 22hp intek model 407777

Normally when this occurs it is due to a SLIGHTLY clogged carburetor jet or nozzle.
It is also possible (but less likely) to have air leakage at the intake gasket area.

If you do not want to do a teardown/cleaning of the carb, I'd suggest a SMALL dosage of fuel system cleaner added to the fuel.

If you suspect air intake leakage, spray some carb cleaner around the intake manifold area and determine if the engine smooths out when sprayed.

KEEP YOURSELF SAFE and do this OUTDOORS!

Hope this helps.

Engine starving for fuel, fuel filter very low, almost empty

your fuel pump is diaghram actuated by pulses from crankcase pressure, if you look there is a small tube that runs from pump to valve cover, pull fuel line off carb and have some one crank it over to see if it's pumping. could be pump or blockage between tank and pump, if fuel flow seems good to carb, i would pull bowl off and check for dirt and also make sure anti run on valve, the thinghy that holds the bowl on to carb is opening properly, it should open and close when you turn key from off to run, beyond that it could be you have some water in your gas.
