Question about Culligan Measuring Tools & Sensors

2 Answers

I just cleaned out the salt chamber of my Culligan Water softener and want to restart it (it is a relatively new gold series) and there are virtually no instructions on how to do this. I have filled the tank with 6" of water and salt to within a few inches of the top. What next? Press manually regenerate????

Lots of salt in the bin and is regenerating properly.

You should put about a 5 gallon bucket of water in first. 6 inches of water is not enough to produce the brine solution needed to fully recharge your culligan. You don't need to take out the salt at this point, just add more water into the top of the salt, wait 3 hours and manual recharge your unit.

Be careful this model of Culligan is actually a allen transport time machine. This is the reason it operates at night. If you where not sleeping you can hear the noise as an allen is transported to your pipes. For your safety keep all drains covered. Manually regeneration will regenerates all those little buggers. Please cover your head with tin foil to prevent the allens from reading your thoughts. The 50's warning Duck and Cover, in this case should be changed to Flush and Cover.

What is Salt Bridging in a Culligan Water Softener

Salt bridging can occur in any water softener "salt tank". A salt bridge occurs when a hard crust of salt develops across the salt tank when the salt wicks up moisture. The salt does not fall down in the salt tank in between regenerations and a "bridge" occurs. It may look like the salt tank is full but there will be a hollow area at the bottom of the salt tank and not enough salt to develop the proper brine for regeneration of softener. This generally happens when the salt tank is a least 1/2 full of salt. If the system has a separate salt tank, shaking the tank will break the bridge usually. Gently poking a stick at the bridge can break it up also but can damage the salt grid if you poke the stick too far down in the salt tank. Certain salts, such as pellet salt are highly prone to this problem. Using Dura Cube, Hardi Cube or Solar salt will greatly reduce the chance of bridging. Any time a salt bridge occurs it will take 3 regenerations of the water softener (in 24 hrs), after fixing it, to regain the reserve capacity and totally soft water.

Need to reset auto timer for back flushing for culligan model # FA-1054 would like online manual

That model # does not work. 10x54 denotes the size of the tank. Is this a Gold Series, Medallist?
Softener, Filter?

Regeneration is nightly as oppsoed to the prrprogrammed 14 days

"DAYS00" indicates it is set to run every day. You may have lost power and it reset to factory settings. If the Gold series softener you have is the Aqua Sensor model (this is a probe in the resin tank that senses a change in the water chemistry and sends a signal to regenerate) the probe can get coated with iron and will either send NO signal or a Constant signal which will make it regen every night.
Usually a Gold series softener is either set up as metered or aqua sensor. There is an option for an override (such as 14 days) or it can be set up as a time clock model. Unplug the softener for 2 minutes and plug back in, re-program the controls to "DAY14". Make sure what the system is suppose to be set up as, Meter, AS, Time Clock.
Here is a link to Culligan for the Gold manual.

I have had salt in for 3 weeks culligan mark 89 is not recharging

If the unit will recharge then you might have what is called a salt bridge in the tank. The salt is stuck above the water level in the salt tank. Poor a gallon of water over the top of the salt and see if you can then break it up. The salt should go down then.

My culligan mark 89 water softner the salt bin never is used up anymore. its been 2 months now and its still full but i hear it everynight turn on

Try cleaning the filter screen under the metal cover plate. Also check your water supply pressure. Some softeners won't run properly on low pressure.c8a54da.jpg
