Sfety switch needs reset. Open the bottom and look for a switch in the cord wires circuit.

The bread won't stay down. The lever keeps coming back up

There is a bottom pan that gets clogged up with bits of bread, turn the toaster upside down and turn the set screw on the pan and open, flip the toaster back over and shake it, this will release a lot particles, keep at it until you removed as much as possible, this should the toaster for sometime.

"Down lever" doesn't stay down

You can try taking the toaster over to the kitchen sink and hold it upside down. Shake the heck out of it and you may dislodge something (like an old breadcrumb) in the switch. I've had to do this numerous times. You have to flip it upright, shake it, turn it upside down and shake it again -repeat until nothing comes out and nothing sounds like it's rolling around in the toaster.

The toaster arms will not stay down on either side , have power to the toaster and can see the elements light when arm is held down but won't stay down.

First, turn it to the darkest setting. It may be set too light to stay down. Also, try cleaning it out. Take it outside and turn it upside down and shake it. Also, open the crumb door on the bottom. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Toaster control lever will not stay down

Unplug the toaster, turn upside down, and gently shake all crumbs out. There's been plenty of times when a stray raisin causes this problem!

Otherwise there may be a break in the element. In Australia toasters won't stay down unless the power is connected, and if there is a break in the element there won't be a continuous circuit.

Russell Hobbs RH2T toaster bread won't stay down w/o hold handle

Hi, most new toaster have a selenoid that hold down the handle while toasting then release when done so a spring bring the toast up. Possible problem with the selenoid, the electronic circuit that controls it or the plate that the selenoid holds. When you lower the handle you close the contacts of the AC line inside the toaster so if the handle is raised there is no power.

The digital control panel is on the fritz,

We ran into the same problem today with our toaster. There was never a problem before I cleaned it--not only by sliding out the crumb drawer, but by turning it upside down to dislodge every last crumb. After that, It would not stay down when pushed down--and none of the buttons were functional.

My husband took the cover off and found that a magnet is what keeps the lever down when the toaster's on, and allows it to go back up when the toasting is done. It's an electro magnet that works only when the toaster is on. It seems that when I turned the unit upside down and rightside up again, crumbs landed on the magnet's contact plates (which are about 1/4" x 1/2") and would not allow the magnet to engage. Because the magnet wouldn't engage, the lever would not stay down, and the toaster shut off. Brush off the magnets, replace the cover and toast away!
