Loud squeeking durring spin cycle

Durring the spin cycle the washer make a loud squeeking similar to the tone of disc brakes. It sounds shrill enough to be metal to metal but I can find no place in the machine where this is or looks to be or even could happen. The squeek warbles with the rythym of the wash tub as it goes in and out of a smooth spin.

I took the front kick panel off and poked around in there while it was spinnign with a load. I pulled the tub around, lifted it slightly, pushed down on it slightly, pulled on all the springs etc but it did not effect the sound. Using a long nut driver, I pushed on the belt tensioner to both add and lessen the belt tension and it did not seem to make much difference.

It sure seems like it would be the belt but I would have expected there to be a significant chnage in the pitch or existence of the sound when I was pushing on the belt.

If it is the belt, is there directions someplace for the replacement of the belt? I am pretty compentent at doing repairs but I was not seeing a simple way to chnage that belt and I want to only do it once.

Thanks for any help

Re: Loud squeeking durring spin cycle

You will need a coupler that goes between the motor and the transmission

Frigidaire front load washer model GLTF1240ASO makes a loud noise durring spin cycle

Most likely the drum bearings are gone, especially if you have some play. You need a bearing and seal kit which is fairly inexpensive but it is a pretty big job. The entire inner drum must come out so it requires the disassembly of quite a bit of the machine.

My whirlpool Estate washer is not draining or spinning but aggitates, what can be the problem?

Sounds like a cycle switch problem. The switch is not turning and making contact with the next cycle. It needs to be changed!

Problem= loud knocking sound durring spin cycle. I

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France

I mostly answer front load problems but ' out of balance' is a common problem with both!
So- I don't know your particular machine but the initial cure is the same.
It is necessary to ensure absolutely that the machine, even when empty, has all 4 feet very firmly on the floor, and I mean firmly ;-0)

Doesn't matter whether it is empty or not but switch it off then-
very firmly push one front corner diagonally into the centre of the machine (sorry about my UK spelling!) and see if the machine moves or rocks AT ALL, even the slightest. If it does you will need the open-ended spanner which came with the (new) machine........which of course went missing a long time ago?!! An adjustable spanner will suffice.
Adjust the foot under that corner downwards until it is very firmly- almost pushing- against the floor but not so far that the corner lifts up!
If this corner did not rock do the same to the other.
Once you cannot rock the machine the slightest little bit, screw the locking nuts up tight to the underside of the machine so that they will not move. Ideally the rear feet should also be locked.

If this has not cured the problem it is possible that the internal drum suspension is malfunctioning but I've not had any feedback of this nature.

Good luck,

John C

I have a 2004 whirlpool gold super capacity plus and It is not agitating durring the wash or spining durring the rinse cycle? You can hear the moter spinning, but it is spinning nothing?

If this is a top load washer, there is a plastic coulpler between the motor and gearcase, it always strips or breaks, you can go to to look at exploded view of the parts for your washer and get the part numbers

The machine made a slight squeek noise each time it slowed down and then started up again (durring the wash cycle) We also noticed a strange odor. It was almost a asbestos burning type of smell. Then later...

It probably mean the spin brake has failed. If everything else is functioning OK and it is not making anymore strange noises it will be OK however when you open the lid(during spin) if it takes more than 10 seconds to stop then the brake should be replaced. If you need anything else please let me know.

Loud banging noise during washing cycle. Sounds like agitator is slipping, then banging. No noise during spinning cycles.

Grab the agitator at the base and attempt to rotate it clockwise and counter clock wise. It should remain firmly in place. If there is movement the agitator spline is worn.

This is your Agitator:

It does not come with the fabric dispenser. It has to be ordered seperately. You should be able to transfer you old one to the new one if you do have to replace the agitator.

Besides the agitator the drive bell can also be the source of the noise. It is located under the agitator.

This part is the most likely cause of the noise.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Loud noise during spin cycle

is it more like a roar or a train going by? if so your rear tub bearing is going out. very expensive have to replace the tub, basket, spinner ring and shaft and seals about 4 hrs for an exprienced tech to do took me 7 hrs to do for the first time. but it will be very close to $1000 to have done not much less to do it yourself.

Kenmore Elite model: 22932

Washing machine works fine UNTIL spin cycle. Loud engaging sound and then it makes a squeek, squeek sound...not really a squeek, but if you were to listen to it, eee, eee, eee, eee, eee and loud.
