I have Compaq A4000 and I also have Windows Vista home ed. I installed the driver for the Windows Xp on my laptop. and found the printer to work a couple times. I tried to reinstall the driver and the same thing. I then got to the point that when ever I had something that needed printed, I would print the page and restart the computer which would make the printer work. I have deducted that a program that had not yet been started due to the reboot was causing the printer not to work. I gave up on the project and just installed to windows 98SE. I think the key to the printer working was in the antivirus, (McAfee). This is NOT CONFIRMED in any way, yet I think if the printer works before the computer fully loads everything, someone could figure out what part of Vista is keeping it from working. Try this for yourself and maybe someone can find an easy workaround, and possibly send the information to compaq for a driver update.

What do I need to Switch from a vista 64 bit Operating System to vista 32 bit Operating System?

You'll need an installation disk, but why would you want to invest the time and effort with Vista. Upgrade to Win7 instead (stay away from 8).

Install Unsigned Drivers on Windows 7 & Vista with Driver Signature Enforcement...

Every time when we try to install any hardware drivers which are not signed by microsoft, Windows shows a warning of Unsigned driver dialog box. The reason of showing warning message is to protect the stability of your Windows operating system as such drivers are not passed in Microsoft windows driver compatibility test.
In Window XP you can still install unsigned drivers but in Windows Vista SP 1 and Windows 7 Microsoft has introduced very restricted module of driver signature enforcement which doesn’t allow us to install any incompatible unsigned drivers.
If you want to bypass or disable Unsigned Driver warning message then Here is small freeware utility Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider which allows you to install and load unsigned drivers dynamically on your Windows 7 and Vista.

Supported Operating System
1. Windows Vista 32-bit & 64 bit
2. Windows 7 32-bit & 64-bit
Download Drive Signature Enforcement Overrider 1.3b
Please Note: User Account Control (UAC) must be disabled in-order to use this tool.

Maybe IBM have some drivers but as XP is obsolete, they may not.

Operating Systems as supplied from new.
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit
Microsoft Windows Vista Business 32-bit and 64-bit
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit
Microsoft Windows XP Tablet Edition 2005

Are you using XP Tablet Edition as that edition has the drivers for the features?

Uninstall the software by clicking on Windows logo Start menu> Programs > Lexmark Series folder> Tools> Uninstall. Restart pc. Check if your Vista is running on 32-bit or 64-bit operating system by clicking on the Windows logo Start menu> right click on Computer > Properties. I recommend you use the downloaded file. Download Driver for Microsoft Windows Vista. for 32-bit operating system or download Driver for Microsoft Windows Vista (x64) for 64-bit operating system. Hope this helps. If you need more assistance, leave a comment so I can get back to it. Thanks.

What do i need to do to add a Lexmark printer to my computer?

Since your post is under the Lexmark X1240 category, I presume that that is the exact model number of your printer. Now, you need to install the printer driver in your computer by using the installation cd that came with the printer. If you don't have the cd, you can download the software from the Lexmark website. Printer is compatible with Microsoft (Windows) operating systems only. If it's running on Vista or Windows 7, check if it's a 32-bit or 64-bit by clicking on Windows logo Start menu > right click on Computer > Properties . Just choose and click the correct driver compatible with your operating system:
- Driver for Microsoft Windows 2000, XP and Server 2003.
- Drivers for Microsoft Windows Vista. (for 32-bit)
- Driver for Microsoft Windows Vista (x64). (for 64-bit)
- Driver for Microsoft Windows 7. (for 32-bit)
- Driver for Microsoft Windows 7 x64. (for 64-bit)
Download and install the software. If you need more assistance, just place a comment so I can get back to it. If you find this helpful, I would appreciate if you can rate me. Thanks.

Hi. There are Microsoft drivers available for download in the Lexmark website. If your using Vista or Windows 7, check if it's running on 32-bit or 64-bit operating system by going to Start > right click on Computer > Properties. Then click on this link to the Lexmark website. http://bit.ly/9faEwK . On the bottom of the page, you'll see dropdowns for Microsoft, Macintosh and Linux/Unix operating system. For Vista, choose Microsoft Vista for 32-bit or Microsoft Vista X64 for 64-bit. For Windows 7, choose Windows 7 for 32-bit or Windows 7 X64 for 64-bit. Download the Driver but not the Firmware update. Hope this helps.

I need dirver Windows Vista 64 bits for Handycam TRV-740

This was taken from Sony's Website....
Driver information for Microsoft® Windows Vista® and Windows® XP
  • The drivers needed to connect most Sony® cameras and camcorders to a computer are already included in the Windows Vista and Windows XP operating systems. With these drivers, you should be able to connect and transfer files to a computer.
  • The USB streaming feature is not supported with the Windows Vista operating system.
  • Detailed Windows Vista compatibility information is available for Sony Cameras and Camcorders.
  • The Windows Vista Starter edition and Windows XP 64-bit operating systems are not supported.
So as you can see...the 64 bit OS is NOT supported.  The only luck you are going to have is either go to XP, Vista 32 bit...or see if there is a 3rd party driver someone made on the internet.  Try google....but I would have to say due to the complex nature of the drivers, it is highly unlikely that anyone has made a driver that is compatible.  It just has to do with how the 64 bit OS is made.  There might be a way to use 32 bit drivers, however you might run into some issues with processing and streaming.  To my knowledge of 64 bit systems, they are backwards compatible with 32 bit applications, so you can use wither 32 or 64 bit drivers....the only downside is by using 32 bit on a 64 bit machine, you are going to suffer a little bit of performance loss.  I hope this answers your questions.

Upgrade vista home premium

As per my knowledge, there is no version of Vista called Vista Professional like in Windows XP.
Make sure what is the version to which you want to upgrade to from Vista Home Premium to Vista Business or Vista Ultimate.
The available versions of Vista Operating Systems along with the features supported from the Link below :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/compare-editions/default.aspx

However, if you want to Upgrade the current version of Vista to a higher version like Vista Business or Vista Ultimate, you need to purchase Vista Anytime Upgrade kit from any retail store or directly from Microsoft.
You can find the required information related to Anytime Upgrade Kit from the link below :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/anytime-upgrade-overview.aspx

However, make sure that you had created the Recovery Disks for your notebook using which you will be able to reinstall the preinstalled Operating Sytem along with all the Preinstalled Applications and Drivers after which you need to use the Vista Upgrade Kit to upgrade to higher version of Vista.
However, if you are currently having a 32 Bit Vista preinstalled in the Notebook, it is not possible to upgrade to a 64 Bit Vista since you can upgrade only a 32 Bit of Operating System to a higher version of 32 Bit Operating System and a 64 Bit Operating System to a higher version of 64 Bit Operating System.
Hope this helps....
