Dead dell touchpad x(

Hi. . .i have a dell latitude d610 with a touchpad that just stopped working. this morning, it was working just fine. the computer was in hibernation mode all day, and when i came home, the touchpad (and the center eraser mouse) just did not work at all. i scoured forums looking for ideas on how to fix this. thus far, i have reinstalled the alps driver, installed the windows service pack 3 but nothing worked! also, under my device manager, i do NOT see any touchpad device listed anywhere. huh, weird! i did read something in one forum about the dell touchpads not faring too well after coming back from hibernation mode. but how do i get it to work again. .. ....any thoughts? muchos gracias!

Have you tried System Restore? If not familiar... Start Button ---> Help ---> System Restore ---> "Restore my computer to an earlier date" --> choose an appropriate date, maybe a few days earlier than the problem.

Re-boot and see if works! If you are ceratin that the problem arose simply from hibernating, then restoring should do the trick!

Hope this helps!

My Latitude D610 power flicks on off on off The

In my opinion, it sounds like a motherboard issue. The keyboard skips would indicate that the keyboard is not always getting the inofrmation to the CPU. If it freezes, it may be overheating.

My Dell Latitude D610 Battery Stopped Working

The battery light flashing RED/AMber is an indication of a failed battery.

Portable batteries have a life expectancy of 300 to 500 recharge/discharge cycles. (roughly 18 months under normal use) After that, the charge life starts to drop off and eventually it will not hold a charge. Because of this, the battery is considered a consumable item and is only warranted for one year from the manufacturer.

Since all the systems listed in the post are D610's (4 to 5 years old) it is not surprising that the batteries are failing.

Dropped Puck, if you replace the battery and a new battery doesn't charge/run the system, then the charging circuit on the MB is failed.

Did you hold down the Fn key and press the function key for the external VGA port? It should cycle as LCD only, LCD and VGA, VGA only and then back to LCD.
