Question about Hitachi 43UWX10B 43" Rear Projection Television
1.)This kind of trouble happens for a reason. The two convergence chipshave a metal back and are bolted to either one large or two smallerheat sinks to keep them cool---a white grease is applied to the back ofeach chip to move heat fast---after some years the grease dries out anda chip reaches a point where it cannot move the heat fast enough and itgoes.
2.) You can locate the chips inside the set--they areblack, 2 1/2 inches wide and about 1 1/2 inches tall with the STKnumber printed on them in white--most of these sets use eitherSTK-392-110 OR STK-392-150 CHIPS---the 150 chip is a higher current andlonger lasting version of the 110 chip. You can buy a pair of thesechips on Ebay for less than 13 dollars plus shipping.
3.)Thechips have 18 pins each and need to be unsoldered to replacethem----Most of the time you just need to replace both chips and adjustthe set with a remote control---I did two Friday---takes about a hourto do this repair.
4.) I do not know what level of skill youhave but if you can do this yourself--you will save some realmoney--once the chips are replaced and the set adjusted--it will nothave this problem again for 5-8 years---about the only problem thiskind of set has.
5.) If you cannot do this look for someone inyour area who can do this---some shops will TRY to charge 300-400 to dothis repair--I have done hundreds of these sets and here I charge200-250 total cost.
6.) If you call and they say it "has to go to the shop" keep looking as any good tech can do this repair right in your home.
7.) Now is the slow time of year for TVrepair shops--shop around and make SURE WHOEVER DOES THIS REPAIRCHANGES BOTH OF THE CHIPS---if only one gets replaced you will have thesame problem again and soon.
8.) Yes, sometimes there will be abad resistor or two damaged by one of the chips---no big deal--any goodtech will be prepared for this.
9.) If you have ANY QUESTIONS OR NEED HELP LET ME KNOW- I am here to help people.

Easy fix, you need to replace the two convergence chips, there are two black chips on a heat sink with a lot of legs on them.
don`t forget to buy thermal paste.

This sounds like your convergence correction amplifiers have malfunctioned. These Integrated Circuits often burn out after a few years (STK392-110) they can be replaced with a higher version (STK392-150) However it is important to have the biasing circuitry checked to make sure nothing has burnt out as a result of the ICs malfunctioning. If you have a background in electronics you can repair this problem with very little effort, however if you do not have a background in electronics, I would suggest that you have your TV serviced by a qualified TV technician.
I hope this helps,
