Not my setup. I have a rod attached to a universal joint. You turn thr rod from the 12:00 position to the 4:00 position to lock in the wheels. Won't stay in 4:00 position while you are moving.

Yes there is an adjustment. follow your shift lever down and you will find a block of iron with 2 bolts holding it. you will also see ond the lever itself a spring loaded pin.most of the time this pin gets gummed up and does not engage the block completely.clean and ensure the pin moves freely. if this does not solve the prob then the block can be moved up or down by loosening the bolts.

I have a Troy Bilt Pony riding mower. The blades will not engage to cut when the lever is turned on. Prior to this happening today, the blades would Not Disengage when lever was turned off.

Someone will need to take the deck apart and service it.
You may need new parts in some places.
That problem is lack of service.
Most other things you have today do not need service anymore, but lawn equipment does.
You will need to clean it and lubricate it regularly, for example: it must be cleaned after every use, and must be lubricated after every 5 cuts, or twice a year, which ever occurs first.
God bless your efforts.

Pony wont stay in drive

I would check and see if your cable is binding. If it is binding you may not be getting it engaged all the way. Also you have to rock the tiller back and forth a little while you are trying to engage it or sometimes it will not engage all the way and then will pop out. Also check that the arm the cable connects to at the transmission is free to move in and out of gear. Sometimes those get coroded up. Just spray some penetrating oil on it,the cable and lthe lever. As far as I know there is not a tension adjustment on the cable.

Good Luck!

My troy built keeps eating the forward drive belt?

Had one do that not long ago. The problem was the idler pulley that pushes against the belt when you pull the engage lever on the handle was not lined up with the belt. I just bent the idler bracket to line up the pulley with the belt. Maybe this will help, assuming you have the same model.

Troy bilt mower will not self propel

most of the time the engagement lever on the transmission cracks (at the bottom close to the pivot point where it goes into the case, look carefully cause it wont show without pressure on it)and the transmission simply will not engage. i fixed mine with a metal arm i made and no more problems all works a should. if they are going to make these under the troy bilt name they should at least make a decent lever for them.

Troy Bilt Tiller tines do not engage

You likely have a clutch problem, never saw one that a simple adjustment would fix. I'd take off the tiller (there are two bolts that hold the tiller portion to the transmission, and check to make sure the clutch is sliding in and out. My hunch is either the lever is loose on the shaft or the allen-head little bolt that they use to shift the clutch has come out. Be sure to grease the clutch while you're in there.

This should be covered in your owners manual. Shame on them if they didn't mention this.

How to take motor off frame troy built tiller

The easiest way is to first remove the drive belt , then on both sides you will see two bolts with locking nuts on them where the engagement lever raises the motor to tighten the belt. Back these bolts out , then have someone hold the motor while you work the rod out on each side that the motor slides up and down on. Oh if you have a bumper there are two bolts in the top of each one holding the bumper on to take out first. Hope this helps.

Troy bilt horse pto clutch will not disengage

The problem is lack of lubrication in the pto coupling. Losen the two swing bolts carefuly, block the front under the motor. Separate the tine transmision from the housing and grease both sides with as much grease as you can work in. Work the lever as you do this. Should fix the problem.
