Did it smell like burnt rubber or maybe plastic burning? After you try to run it for about 10 seconds (and it won't run) then you touch the motor (with the dryer unplugged) it is hot?
It sounds like the brushes could be dirty due to the lag you placed on the dryer when it was installed incorrectly possibly.
OR
While it is plugged in, are the lights coming on in the dryer when you open it?
It could be a fuse if it has no electric going to it (the light does not turn on)
OR
Will the drum spin if you attempt to turn it manually?
THe pulley or another item on the belt system could have burned (ruined) when it was installed incorrectly.
Try to walk through each piece of the system that was affected by teh incorrect installation and see if there may be an item that is not working correctly; this could be an easy fix.
Hope this helps

Are the lights on the dryer coming on at all anywhere? Could it be a blown fuse?

Some models have fuses (inline fuses). In the Diagram it would show fuses if you have a diagram. Check to see if the circuit breaker may have blown at the wall circuit (you probably already did this).

The only other item I can think of is the motor has burned up, but this would be my last resort.

You can check the motor wiht a tester, but be careful of shocks.

check the pully on the motor and check the tention of the drive mechanism. It's usually a belt around the drum.

What would cause a squeeking sound in the drum of the dryer?

That would be the roller nearest the vent. The heat gets to the roller. You should remove the roller and clean it with emory cloth then add some HVAC oil to the shaft to kill the squeal. Zoomspout oil won't dissipate , is nonflammable, and heat resistant.7f90fe6.jpgTo get into the dryer:You pop the top buy using a putty knife on number 3 and remove the front panel,

Dryer squeeking while tumbling & leaves black smudge on clothes

it sounds like a drum support roller is going bad or the belt idler pulley. i think maytag has a kick panel on the bottom that can be removed. look inside with a flashlight and you may be able to see something. if not, you may have to take the drum out to get a really good look. make a note and study how the drive belt serpentines around the motor, pulley, and drum so you can get it back together.

Putting on belt

put it around drum, then around motor pulley, then idler pulley with spring attached to, move it forward and slip belt onto idler pulley and release and belt should become tight, then self align belt by manually turning drum before putting unit together

I have a Maytag Legacy Dryer SDE305DAYW that is squeeking. How do I change the belt?

the belt is not causing the squeek. either the tub rollers, or the idler pully is squeeking. you must remove the front panels and drum to inspect these parts. usually when a roller or idler pully is squeeking, you need to replace them. if they arnt to worn, you can clean the shaft and grease them to stop the squeek, but i dont recomend that, as it will just be a temporary fix and will start squeeking again. this isnt a easy repair if you've never done it. let me know if you have any further questions. Tumble dryer ,creda tcr 13

hello dave to do this you'll have to take the front panel off so you can pull the tumbler out so you can get to your pully and tensioner on the bottom on the dryer, loop the belt on the pully and keep tension on it while you slip the tumbler back in now loop the belt around the tumbler and after the tumber is sitting on your glides spin the tumbler till the belt is in place,if you can have somebody help you its easyer putting the tumbler back in with 2 people while keeping the belt on the pully on the bottom of the dryer. any other problems or questions let me know i've dont mine about 6 months age its a little pain in the **** but not inpossable

beckerkim, you have one of two things going here, either your blower wheel has something jammed in it or it's broken or the motor itself is shot. Check the blower wheel first make sure it's ok. You also may want to check the drum rollers to make sure they are not seized up. Catriver...post back.
