Cable from modem to router(should be the internet line )port. then computers hook up to the other ethernet ports. restart your "modem" not router, when all computers are set up.

Take away your son's netbook.
The final solution is a factory reset of your router. You can do a factory reset by logging into the router using you browser. Go to the settings and perform a factory reset

If you forgot the router password, you ill have to do a factory reset by locating a small hold on the back of the router and insert the tip of of paper clip for about 10 seconds while the power is on. The router will be reset to out of box status and then you can set-up form scratch.

There's no place on modem to hook router

Look for Ethernet jacks. You want to hook both your computer and your daughter's laptop to the router to out ports i.e. usually on the front side. The back side of router would hook using probably another Ethernet jack to your modem.

Internet problems

try resetting your modem, not the router. Unplug it, wait a bit and plug it back in. the modem needs to see the routers ip address so it allows connectivity. Right now the modem has your computers ip address and doesn't see the router, until you reset it. try it, it should work.

I don't know how to hook up the dlink to the computer. Does it plug into the modem or directly into the computer?? I on my own...my son hooked it up before so I'm not sure how to do it. Can anyone guide...

There's a cable that comes from the modem that plugs into the WAN port on the dlink router. Then you connect one of the other ports(1,2,3, or 4) into the network card on your computer. The connection and network cable look like a phone cord/connection just bigger.

Trouble connecting netgear wireless router to rca modem DCM425

First try connection the Yellow ethernet cable from the rca modem to your computer's network connection. If you get a connection this way, then your modem will work with a ethernet cable. If not, then call Comcast for help. The modem ethernet out to computer port must be connected to the wan line of the router. Then you can connect an ethernet cable from your computer network connection to one of the 4 ports of the router. For wireless connections you must set up the router and wireless adaptor with the same settings to connect. Follow the routers directions.
Good Luck

I forgot my router psword , i now know how to reset it but i need to hook up my sons ipod therefore i need to do the psword thing but will it knock my sons xbox live system off the live part? i h

If you have forgotten your password, push the reset button on the back of the router. This will reset it to factory defaults.

The factory default user name is "admin" and the password is "password".

You can change the password by logging in, and from the main menu, under the "maintenance" heading, select "set password". You will need to enter the old password once, and the new password twice.

N1 Belkin wireless router F5d8231-4

You need to reset the router to default and reinput your wireless security settings. You will need your router's IP adress. If you did not change it, it should default to 192.168.2.1 Type the IP Adress into your web browser. It should invoke a password screen to access your router. Log in to it. I don't know how handy you are with computers. If this seems like mumbo jumbo, STOP! Find a tech to handle it for you. This is the address to the User manual if you need it: http://www.belkin.com/support/dl/F5D8231-4v1_manual.pdf this is page 41: Restoring Factory Default Settings Using this option will restore all of the settings in the Router to the factory (default) settings. It is recommended that you back up your settings before you restore all of the defaults. 1. Click the ?Restore Defaults? button. 2. When the message appears, Click ?OK?. 3. The following message will appear. Restoring the defaults includes restarting the Router. It can take up to 60 seconds. It is important not to turn the power to the Router off during the restart. 4. A 60-second countdown will appear on the screen. When the countdown reaches zero, the Router?s defaults will be restored. The Router home page should appear automatically. If it does not, type in the Router?s address (default = 192.168.2.1) into the navigation bar of your browser. Hope this helps... If not leave a message and I will respond back!
