Windows Vista - Polaroid Digital Camera Driver Software Needed?
Question:
I just got a new computer that runs Microsoft Windows Vista. I want to download photos from my Polaroid Digital Camera. The CD that came with the camera does not list Vista as a compatible OS. Where can I get new Vista compatible driver software to use with the camera?
Answer:
New driver software is not needed to download photos from your camera into a Windows Vista computer. The drivers on the Polaroid website, and on the CD-ROM that was included with your camera, are the same. There are no Windows Vista updated drivers available at this time for cameras that not originally include a Vista compatible CD-ROM. There are two ways to download your photos into a computer running Windows Vista.
- Download Photos Without Using Driver Software
Most Polaroid digital cameras (except PhotoMax digital cameras)are Windows plug and play devices. You do not need to install driver software to be able to download your photos from the camera. It should be recognized as a mass storage device (similar to a USB thumb drive or removable hard drive) by Windows Vista. Follow these steps to download photos:
1. Turn on your camera.
2. Put the camera into
PLAYBACK mode and view one of the pictures you have already taken on the cameras' LCD screen. If your camera has a USB mode menu setting, make sure it is set to
Mass Storage or
PC before connecting the camera. More details on this step can be found in your camera user manual. Look for the section that shows how to transfer images to your computer.
3. Connect the camera to one of the computers' USB ports.
4. Follow the on-screen prompts from Windows Vista to access the cameras memory as a Removable Disk Drive. Double click "Removable Disk" -> double click "DCIM"-> double click any directory folder under "DCIM" to access your photos.
