Question about Televison & Video
We have a Sony WEGA 50 or 52 inch. Its around 5 years old. The problem is that right in the middle of the screen it looks like a star constellation. On one corner it also has a blue hue. What could be wrong with it?
Depending on the model number even if the set is now out of warranty--you may have some recourse with Sony. It sounds like you have a LCD rear projection---the pattern in the middle of the screen and a blue discoloration suggest a BAD OPTICAL LIGHT ENGINE! It is a very expensive part and labor intensive to replace--Contact Sony with your model number---they were offering free replacement including labor on a lot of these sets well past the warranty period.
I am from your description almost certain it is a bad optical engine.
I know I am not giving you good news but this is common on these sets--the engine has a series of lens and the heat from the lamp causes them to be damaged inside.
I do this here for free so if this has helped you at all take a minute and give me a vote here.
